Hi Folks,
It’s Monday and no doubt we are reeling from another beat heavy weekend! I’ve compiled my weekly aural treats to rid away those moody blues we all feel on our least favourite day of the week…
Ronan Portela – Beat Up
I only heard of Ronan recently and the energetic Argentinean has produced one of the most pumping songs of 2009! With echo’s of early DJ Sneak this house monster is seriously groovy! The hypnotising looped vocals and distorted voices combined with a savage base line work perfectly with the punch kick drum and ethno percussion. I can’t wait to hear this out… on a good sound system this is gonna pop off!
Sascha Dive – Brother
After the Deep Vibes head honcho’s cutting words on the monotony of house music at he lets his music do the talking with this track being the stand-out effort of his new ‘The Panther EP’. As a welcome change from his usual deep, smooth sound, this track is a thick, swirling stomper, the old school vocal drops in kicking you into the groove. Another slick production from Sascha makes him one of the most respected names in house music. Get this one in, it’s a beast!
Argy – What Time Is It?
Released on Argy’s own ‘These Days’ imprint, ‘What Time Is It?’ is a ridiculous builder, with rising synths rushing frantically out of a bed of clappy percussion and a vocal that forcibly encourages this high energy track. This release literally brings so much to the table in terms of the expectation it in stills in the listener; expect this bomb to be whipping crowds up into a sweaty frenzy real soon.
Johnny D – Point Of No Return
With ‘Orbitalife’ and ‘Requiem For A Dream’ cementing Johnny D as one of the biggest producers in the last few years, the man from Mannheim has really pushed all the buttons with the newest release. This track has serious groove and is guaranteed to get your ass shaking. Cut up vocals, a booming bassline and a fizzing melody all combine to make this a superb effort, nice one Johnny!
Floating Points – Vacuum Boogie
With Joy Orbison making waves with his dub/house/garage vibes, Floating Points is making a similar name via a more cosmic dub flavour. Floating points has been described as one of the most exciting young producers in the UK his distinctive style has been described as leaning toward boogie house and electronic soul. I never really take notice of these ridiculous genre labelling, what I did realise is that this track is his best work yet. Still big enough for the dancefloor with its throbbing sub bass, it’s so intelligently constructed, with a dream like disco feel this is definitely worth a listen.
Woah! Only 4 more sleeps till the weekend…. See you next week,
Love Matt x
