Bigger Than Jesus speak with Lost Souls ahead of Bogged Out? @Public Life 14/07/07

First of all when you chose your name, what made you decide on Bigger Than Jesus?

Firstly cheers for inviting us down to Bogged Out! Cant wait to get our rave on and finally meet Henry Horse!

We were just taking off from where Mr Lennon left off when he was saying how small Jesus was and how he had to wear big platform sandles to make him taller. Love Jesus thou and small people in general.

Nick & Pete how and when did you meet and what made you decide
you wanted to work together as a team?

We were on the 'disco bus' to a rave in Yarm and randomly started yapping away to each other as you do ....for our sins we kept in touch.

What is your most memorable performance as Bigger Than Jesus?

The Ketoloco house parties were just insane....looking back at them you just shake your head and then shake your head again......its wicked that they are continuing the vibe with Basic's and in Ibiza hosting the abandon zoo and quarry parties...sound the bollocks!

Recently we played Riff Raff in Middlesbrough and that was just silly. The energy of the place went right off it and continued on and on and on until we couldn’t see.

You've been playing for some of the best parties at some of the best clubs in the Northern part of England such as Myhouse (Leeds), Sankeys (Manchester), Custard Factory (Birmingham) plus many more, including being involved with some of the coolest underground parties such as Ketoloco. Can you tell us a little bit about the techno scene up North and which DJ/ artists are really pushing the right buttons?

There is so many wicked DJs we've met but personally again its the Ketoloco Djs that totally do it for us...

Yeah loved playing all the party's you've mentioned and all the others. Every where we go we've had such a laugh and such positive feedback from people.....feel totally proud to be part of something and I think that's why we give it our everything when we play out and not to take what we have for granted...

Its also wicked to see the techno scene in the North East has become a lot more healthy recently with nights such as _Error, Habit, Riff Raff, Wax On etc flying off the handle. People have a much more warmer attitude to dirty music nowadays up here....

You've already had releases on Danish Minimal Techno label Tic Tac Toe (same label as Trentemoller & Gabriel Ananda) and have had 4 tracks signed to the massive Silver Planet Recordings, whose roster includes Timo Mass, James Holden, Ali Perc, John Dahlback, Switch & Paul Van Dyk to name a few. How did this all come about and did it all happen quick for you guys?

Yeah we basically sat down and just wrote the music we loved, and what sounded right to us, and threw it over to a few labels...luckly other people loved it too and decided to put it out for us....no mad science really! really happy how its fallen out....

To somebody who is not aware of you both, how would you describe your style
when it comes performing and producing?

It’s like bambi who’s been tranquilized, crossed between some alien life force zoning in on earth for the first time! lol, we just give it our very best and people seem to buzz off it! :-)

What inspires you to make your music?

My little pony, naughty dog, and the worm at the bottom of my garden.

What is your favorite track you have produced?

Probs Itchy Glitchy Spider or Witch Kraft coming out on T.F.E soon.

Which artists do you like/listen to outside of the techno/dance music genre? And what artists do you draw inspiration from?

Lovin the retro stuff like Dylan, The Clash, Lennon, Stones, Joplin, etc plus some of the new bands who draw inspiration from them.

Get inspiration from loadsa frequencies...love it all!

Who do you personally consider to be the most influential heads in international techno?

Adam Beyer with out a doubt...his Fabric Cd a couple of years ago opened our eyes and we haven't looked back. Heard him play a live set on radio one and we symbolically smashed the guitar up and threw it on the fire... also love producers such as Len Faki, Perc, Massi DL, Luca Bachetti etc.

Where do you see Bigger Than Jesus in 5 years?

Ward 3, London Psychiatric Hospital, playing ping pong with mars bars...

Without giving the answer “answering these questions”, what are you guys doing right now?

"answering these questions!" lol

Cheers guys we look forward to meeting you down the bog!
