Kiddfectious favourite and friend, Kutski has been there from Day One:

He was one of the Kiddstock originals back in 2007.

He was there last January to mark the launch of Kiddfectious.

He even came back to contribute more to the Kiddstock madness in 2008... It's only right to inject a good old dose of Kutski magic into our first birthday celebrations!!

Extremely exciting things have been happening in the world of Kutski since the Kiddfectious launch a year ago, and even since our last interview back in the summer. Not content with flooding the airwaves with his very own selection of Hard Dance and Hardcore once a month as part of In New DJ's We Trust, Kutski now has his very own weekly show on Radio One. And if you didn't know that, quite frankly where have you been?!

Not only is this a massive acheivement for the man himself on a personal level, it's also a pretty big deal for the entire Hard Dance scene in general. To have a genre of music often considered fairly niche featured and played each and every Friday night alongside the likes of Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Judge Jules really is something quite special that many would never have thought possible.

Kutski is now more than just an amazing DJ. He is more than a fantastic producer....Kutski is the Spokesperson for Hard Dance.

So Kutski... now all the madness of the festive season has started to calm, what have you got planned for 2009?

First things first, I'm working hard down at the BBC. We've got the weekly show off to a cracking start, so my priority at the moment is to keep the momentum up!! In February, me and the Radio 1 team will be in force covering the Hard Dance Awards, so that will take some preparation. We are also organizing our first lot of guests on the new show which is exciting! Outside of that I'm hoping to get a few bits done in the studio, as I've got a few killer ideas. I just need a bit of time to execute them properly, so watch this space!! :)

PhotobucketYou played at the Kiddfectious launch party last year, what are you looking forward to most about the First Birthday event?

I don't think I've played in Manchester since the last Kiddfectious party, and that was amazing! I think I'm probably most looking forward to playing to the Manchester crowd again. I play out a lot, but surprisingly not in the North West very much, and being where I'm from, it's always nice to be back on home turf!!

Do you have any New Years resolutions? And if so, have you stuck to them?

I have no will power whatsoever, so I don't even bother any more. I did think I should start going the gym again, but at time of writing this I've not been once and eaten take-a-way nearly every night, so I guess that's out the window!! I'll tell you what would be a good one though, to stop eating so much junk from service stations!! No more midnight pepperami's for ol' kutski from now on!!

What tracks are currently doing the most dance floor damage during your sets?

At the moment I'm playing a lot of European hardcore at the end of my sets, and that has been going off sick!! People like Nosferatu, Endymion, DJ Promo, and of course, my old mate Evil Activities!! Last year was his year in Dutch hardcore, and this year he's looking even stronger!!
Other than that, Kidd Kaos is knocking some great stuff out, Neal Thomas on the more techy tip, and Australian hardstyle act Bio Weapon are rocking it too!! I do have a secret weapon too, but you'll have to wait till the night to hear it. You'll know what I mean when you hear it as it's such a 'Kutski' tune haha...

PhotobucketAs Radio 1's only hard dance DJ, do you think that the sound of hardstyle and hardcore could ever get more peak time airplay?

I'd say yes... within reason! Of cause you can't play full on hardstyle, or speedcore on daytime radio, but there are definitely some vocal hardcore tracks that are easy on the ear and very catchy. I see no reason why stuff like this can't get played if Basshunter and Pendulum get play!! (PS. this is something I'm working on, and the powers that be at Radio 1 are listening :))

What gigs are you most looking forward to over the next few months? (Other than Kiddfectious 1st Birthday of course!)

I'm playing HTID on the same night as Kiddfectious which will be awesome too as I love those guys. Also, I'm playing the Masters of Hardcore arena at Fantasia in February which is a really honour as those guys very rarely get anyone outside of their close knit scene involved in what they do, so that will be massive for me!! Then of course there is the hard dance awards at the end of February which is like the cup final of the hard dance scene really innit lol...

PhotobucketYou and Alex have been on quite a journey together throughout your careers, playing many events together. What has been a personal highlight of the Kidd/Kutski pairings of times gone by?

Yeah, me and Alex have had a fair few mad missions last year alone, from wandering round 5 star hotels in courtesy dressing gowns trying to find Girls Aloud who we thought where staying in the same hotel, to having celebratory drinks in our apartment in Australia early this year when I found out I was an uncle!!
One thing more recently though, I think we were on a tour in Dublin and we were both so pissed it was a real effort to get back to the hotel room after the gig!!! I remember Alex couldn’t find his key card so I was looking through his record bag. When I turned round the bastard had just got into my bed and gone to sleep. I vaguely remember saying something like "fuck off to your own bed" and Alex replying "a bed is a bed, stop being a knobhead" haha... PhotobucketWe both woke up the next morning having felt better with a collection of our personal possessions scattered through the hotel as we had made our way to the rooms, luckily with nothing missing!!! Ahhh what emotional bonding experiences we have had!!

After a year travelling all over the world you must have had some eventful nights! What’s the maddest thing you have witnessed?

Recently in Canada, I was fast asleep in my hotel room sleeping off jetlag and alcohol when Organ Donors convinced reception their friend was my manager, and get a keycard for my room!! They then invited half of Vancouver into my room, turned the lights on and proceeded to serenade me with a Queen song!! The bastards filmed the whole thing too, so expect to see it on youtube soon...
