A new event in Carlisle!?
D3v
Well hello Carlisle!

I used to live in Cumbria about 4 years ago just for 2 years. Originally from West Yorkshire i had to move here for a while but soon moved back away. After 4 years I've returned to see nothing much has changed. Basically from my knowledge of Cumbria and after going out in Workington last week i am still gutted at the choices people have up here. It seems everyone goes out to get pissed and they dont care what music is on (usually seems to be ultimate cheese)! Either that or usually a hard House event at Fusion which let face it, is a horrible club!

So, i have a plan!
Basically Fat's seems a nice fresh, clean, chic bar that seem to be at the forefront of the Area. So congrats on whoever is responsible for that, so i am thinking about planning a weekly event there. First off though I'm just doing some research. The night would be playing upfront dirty electro/techno house music and maybe some breaks.
(If you aint sure what that is have a listen to this set i think it sums the music up quite well so take a listen : Oli8's 170) Mix )

Now i have been told that student night in Carlisle is on a Tuesday, is this true? If so the event is likely to be on that day as Fats would probably NOT let me have their place on a Saturday night. Bear in mind i have not spoke to Fats about this yet!

1) I need to know whether there is demand out there for such an event.
2) Are there any DJ's out there willing to play?
3) Would you be willing to pay a fixed £2 entrance every week?

So there is the plan, if you like it and think you would like to attend please reply with your thoughts.

If you are a DJ interested in playing give me a ring on 07960105035 or email me at jay@zer-o-one.com

If you are wondering why you would have to pay an entrance fee then i will put it like this....the entrance fee would be to pay the DJ's for the event. If/when i speak to Fats if they did let me take the Tuesday night it would probably be an agreement that goes a little something like this. They take the bar i take the door. So is £2 pound really that much? If only 20 people attend that's only £40 to pay DJ's and myself.

This is an event to set something off and offer you guys an alternative to the rest of the shit that is out there. I'm not in it for the money, i'm in it for the love of clubbing and the music!!

So common...lets set it off!!

So by that im guessing you would be happy to play? Ill take a listen to your mix. Do you have all your own equipment, cdjs, turntables, cd's, vinyls, mixer, phones etc?

As to pottylad and fitzyboy, tell your mates about this and lets start spreading the word. Also is there any other websites you guys know for stuff like this up here? I need some interest for this otherwise it just wont take off and it will be gutting because i need my techno fix!

dont fink Fats would go along with it on tues night for starters the guy that owns Fats also owns Concrete and they only charge the students £3 to go into Concrete so no one will be willin to pay to go into Fats. its always been a free entrance n cheap drinks, thats wot keeps it so popular, if u start chargin ppl to go in they'd lose punter n they'd stop ur night or not even let u start it in first place. Fats is alway the pre party for Concrete because like i said freee entry and cheap drinks.

wud be a good idea to put an electro/techno night on but i'd suggest somewher other than Fats.

What's the night at Concrete like?

I would have to charge people, that's what promoters do! It would be my night not the guy who owns fats so i would have to charge to pay DJ's.

Any ideas for another location?

dont fink its got a name but its typical student night, cheap entry, cheap drink n that.

i'd doubt they'd let u put it on if ur gona charge punters like coz fats has always been a free bar like i said n it will drive away the local punters n that.

Any ideas for another location?
not to sure. i'd maybe say the Brickyard. probs best asking Ross (7th Earl) he's put a few hard house nights on ther before so might be worth an go

I don't think Mr Concrete owns Fats any more. It (and TC's Niteclub) are currently being run by a fellow called Clive and an associate of his.

I can't see anyone paying to go into Fats to be honest, it may be worth finding Clive and having a chat with him about TC's though. It's a nice club. I asked him about doing a Hard House night there and he said no, but I reckon he may be up for something a bit more chilled out - as long as it gets the punters in! Go to Fats on a Tuesday / Friday / Saturday night with a mix CD and find Clive for a chat.

As far as The Brickyard goes, I haven't spoken to Andy for a while. Last time I did he said something about not wanting to do dance music nights anymore. Saying that though, if you had a night that was pulling in the punters I'm sure his ears would prick up a tad.

Good luck finding a venue though - Carlisle is a piss-ant, white-bread, one-horse, mountain town.
