Cyberpunk
Does anyone here know how "cyber" arose from ? The origins of the style that seems so predominant in the Harder scene at the moment.

I thought as part of my new modship we should have some discussions about the scene and where the music comes from. It's always good to know your roots.

True that Crasher kids pioneered it in this country, but the Dutch have been doing it for a lot longer than anyone else. en.wikipedia.org

Michael Azzopardi is the world oldest cyber FACT!!!

Just googled it what did he do tho how significant was an author in the movement?

Also found this..........
The name is derived from cybernetics and punk and was originally coined by Bruce Bethke as the title of his short story "Cyberpunk," published in 1983 That's the year I was born ('',)

He is widely recognised as the godfather of cyberpunk. He predicted the internet before it was created.

Oh and he also created Steampunk with his book The Difference Engine.

Steampunk is coming in a big big way. Think faux Victorian costumes with a techno edge. Do you think that could be the next cyber on the scene ?

I always thought it stemmed from Gatecrasher, only being a young-un when I first got into clubbing, I didn't really know what it was all about. My friends wore it, so I joined in. I've alwys thought that the clothing is so bright to provide extra sensory stimulation (plus added safety with the old cyberdog padded clothing, lol)

is that you in the picture above with ur fella michael ?

I know that there was a time when dance music and electronic media and all that kinda stuff was considered futuristic and cool, we imagined a world which would be ruled by those with the technology over those with the money. it was the dream that the people with the minds would take over from those with the muscles... dance music was full of people who hoped that, so it was only sensical that people took on the ideas and fashions of the writers in that scene. Bladerunner is a good example of an early Cyberpunk film...

It is indeed, a wee baby at 17!

I think the fashion is something like all other trends that does seem to come and go too. It evolves and comes back in another form - when I first started in 2001 it was about everything being made of brightly coloured fur and beads, then things started getting a bit sexier, hem lines higher, more breasticles on show - whereas now I think cybergoth is becoming more popular (which I guess is helped by all things rock being in mainstream fashion at the moment) - and in turn I guess you could say it's come full circle back to cyberpunk!

Steampunk......... faux Victorian costumes with a techno edge.

There is this dude samppa von cyborg that is banging on about it being the next club culture fashion movement. TBF cyber is getting lame now that it doesn't have any innovative twists perhaps steampunk is what is needed a shock to the system.

Fi hope you don't mind me posting that photo I just thought it had relevance being Organ Donas group n shit.

samppa von cyborg

you got any links ? do you think it will be the next movement ? cyber works well because you dont have to wear much in clubs... Its cool and really cool to wear little bits of fabric in the melting pots that are club environments...

I like to mix and match if possible, and I always prefer to make my own. I draw inspiration from punk/goth/emo styles and add a bit of fluro here and there. Although really all you need to be "cyber" really is a good pair of fluffy boot covers (or gaitors as I used to know them!).

Ha! Hark at me, I'm sounding FAR too old before my time.

I guess girls throw themselves more into the cyber scene because it's socially accepted for girls to dress up with crazy clothes and make-up. Although some of the best cybergoths I've seen are male - and I'd almost go as far as saying they look better than the girls!

A lot of the people I started wearing cyber with quickly moved onto the "Try-hard" style (remember that one - think it was Mixmag who labelled it), and soon after fell out of the club scene. I disappeared from the scene for a few years and when I cam back noticed how cyber was still quite popular, but I don't know...... maybe club attitudes have changed, it's not as popular as it used to be. Admittedly I don't attend any hardcore events where I've noticed from pics it's still really popular (but then it always was - think dust masks and white gloves).

Nowadays I don't necessarily put myself into the cyber genre because I don't wear it that often. Like I say, I mix it up - which I think is the best way! (of course ;) )
