earplugs
i just picked up my earplugs today, er 9 custom made ones, had a little play with them at home and they seem pretty sweet!

they r a lot less inconspicuous they i was told though and do seem to stick out quite a bit.... i no there about safety not looks but i didnt think they would be so visible.

r they all made to the same size? (apart from the fact there custom made) or do different companies makes smaller ones?

hi-fidelity plugs is what people should be getting . i have heard stories of some companies taking moulds and fitting shitty pugs in that muffle the sound making things sound like you have those cheap disposable foam plugs in.

check out www.sensorcom.com for custom ear plugs if you live in the london area

they do the moulds for your ears there and the total cost is £70.. I'm pretty sure thats cheaper than anywhere else

It's entirely possible that was the mistake of the customer - motorbike earplugs for example are designed to cut as much as possible out.

I got a pair of ER25s last month - the strongest. They're really good! Everyone should have a pair!

Just pick a noise reduction level to taste.

i got the 9s, i only ever do a 1 or 2 hour sets so dont really need any more!

got um from boots, they sent um off to be made, cost £165, a small price to pay for my main tools of the trade

I paid 20p less! The price isn't going to fluctuate all that much because it's one supplier to a fairly captive market.

Still wonder if 9 is enough for clubs? Guess it depends the systems you work with.

Even if you can't afford that much it's worth getting some sort of plugs - I've had a couple of sets of generic attentuating ones (the current ones I have have 3 levels of filter that you can fit, I use the mid range) - and while I wouldn't wear them for mixing, they're great for clubbing - you don't lose much in the way of quality & you appreciate the difference to your ears afterwards.

Recently had my hearing checked for a job medical - and it wasn't too bad for an old codger, so I'd like to keep it that way!
