"If you thought The Cross was good, this place is 10 times better"

May 2008. The map of London’s clubland still has a big old 7000+ capacity Canvas/Key/Cross/Halo/Turnmills shaped hole in it. Yep, we’ve got some pretty nice new smaller venues but that’s about it. But what’s this? A new club on Camden Road? A new club on Caledonian Road? A roof terrace in Victoria? One man is behind all these “rumours” – the same man who was behind Canvas, The Key, The Cross and Halo Warehouse, and the same man who’s brother owns Fabric and is opening a second Fabric venue at the O2 Arena in September. His name is Billy Reilly, and he’s well on his way to filling the aforementioned hole that was created when the land developers decided to take away his legendary Goods Yard complex to make way for the redevelopment of the area. Help is on its way.

So first thing’s first – we’ve been hearing about Pacha Terrace for months now, the pub/club/DJ bar that is currently called The Driver, situated at the King’s Cross end of Caledonian Road.“We’re actually gonna open that probably at the end of September, early October...getting to the Christmas period, stuff like that.” says Billy. “Basically we’ve got 5 floors, at the moment we’ve got a possibility of putting a roof terrace on but we’re not going to do that at the moment – we’ll go for planning for next year. But basically I suppose it’s going to be a little bit like an accessible Soho House, crossing over with club nights - make it a little bit more intimate. It’s got a 24 hour Music & Dancing license and a 4AM liquor license on it. The pubs have sort of become the new clubs, they’ve become like boutique clubs – so we’re sort of focusing on that” 2 minutes walk from the heart of the currently-in-regeneration area of King’s Cross, it will be a fine addition to an area that’s set to become a real hotspot for culture and nightlife in London, with billions of pounds of reinvestment in the area, the new Eurostar terminal, and the relocation of St. Martin’s art school’s central campus to the area. In fact, the school will move into the Goods Yard site - with suggestions that most of the original buildings that housed The Cross and Canvas - will remain intact.
