It depends on what you're after? They both have the new Canon technology in them, but the 450d is smaller in body, with a smaller screen and I think a lower frames per second speed.

if you're not too concerned with the higher ISO speeds, then you might find the extra 2.1MP of the 450D to your liking.

Body only, the 40D has cashback, so its only about £80 more than the 450D. Have a look at the-digital-picture.com at the 450D review where he compares the 2 cameras quite a few times in the review

If you're looking at spending that kind of money... 40D over the 450D any day.

Here's the question then:

You have a 10D and a 350D, and are replacing the 350D. The 10D is clearly older, can't use EF-S lenses, and has fewer Megapixels. Even the 350D is better at higher ISO than the 10D, and the AF is supposed to be faster

I'm not knocking the 10D - its a good camera, but the body is much like the 40D, so why do you have the 350D (or otherwise - why do you have the 10D?)

If it were me, I'd replace the 10D ( you can still get something decent for the 10D) with the 40D and then you have a compact body, and a prosumer body, both which have the same support for lenses.
