There is an option on your buddies profile page which says "allow/stop buddie mass inviting me" make sure the envelope is NOT highlighted, this measn they cant invite you,

if I get 4 or more messages from same person bout same thing I remove the opition for them to invite me to topics

click the mail button on someones profile to stop them inviting you to topics.
To stop receiving news items i think u have to leave the group.

It seems that without me acceptance, they are able to use all of the perks which come with being ones pal on here.

why are they allowed to invuite me in the first place??

when you add someone it automaticaly allows them to mass invite you, when ever I add a new buddy I always check the envelope isnt highlighted

I always check the envelope isnt highlighted

And if they still invite you then they are adding you individually - the only two means of recourse a PM asking them not to and then/or unbuddying them.

something i have noticed is that if you are in a group and you have asked not to watch it....news items come through anyway....why is this? can this be prevented in anyway

news items come through anyway....why is this?

Because news is deemed to be important - so it goes to all group members regardless of watching status.

can this be prevented in anyway

Yes, either: Ask the group moderators to stop allowing/posting so many news items OR leave the group (if you are not watching it and you don't want the news why are you a member?).

Only if they haven't turned off the e-mails.

Yeah I now that bit, thats what I have been doing all morning, but why are they allowed to invuite me in the first place??

i think theres a slight bug in the system, and if you go to invit buddies, and type a name in of someone who is not your buddy, you can invite them in.

i invited dave b to a thread the other day even though he isnt on my buddy list

Yeah, we've done this intentionally. It shouldn't cause too much spam, because you have to choose the people individually.

So what does the system of buddies actually DO now then? Inviting to groups/threads and spotting them were really the only things you had to be a buddy to do before.
