AKA's 10th birthday with Basement Jaxx, Gilles Peterson, Fabio and more...
AKA & The End - Thursday 31st July 2008 – AKA Tenth Birthday – 2200/late - £10

Click here to buy tickets for AKA's 10th birthday

Dress code: as white as the driven snow / as silver as the moon

AKA, The End’s rebellious little sister, reaches its 10th birthday on 31st July this year, and celebrates a decade in the business with an extravagantly themed party. This year, you’ll step off the hot July streets and into the cool, surreal and magical word of Narnia, with a ‘The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe’ themed bash. Sip cocktails beneath the snow covered pine trees, take a dalliance with the dark side in the White Witch’s castle, before retreating to the safety of Aslan’s camp, complete with life sized lion!

This year, as it’s the tenth, we’ve pulled out all the stops, inviting back three of the acts who played the opening night a decade ago – Basement Jaxx (DJ set), Gilles Peterson and Fabio (playing an old school set). They will be joined by The Shapeshifters, Jimpster, Luke Solomon, Johnno (playing a Guilty Pleasures set), Luke Solomon, Chris Woodward, Rap Saunders & Dennis Christensen, Rob Summerhayes & Ali Tillett, Jim Wood, Johnny Sedin, Georgia Girl and Simon Lindley.

Come and raise a glass to one of London’s best loved venues, and don’t forget to dress up – guests are requested to wear something white or silver to fit in with the wintry Narnia theme. Happy birthday us!

I hope there will be lots of people there

Don't worry one bit, this is AKA and The End, there is seriously no other club that comes close, and tonight is going to be extra special!

Doors open at 10 I think, if you are not getting tickets, I would come down for then. If you are getting tickets, around 11/midnight is good.

I do hope they're gonna ramp up the air-con at AKA tonight, Narnia really doesn't have a chance in this weather, although the winter wonderland will psychologically influence people into thinking it's cooler and thus lower their body temperature. Gawd, I'm such a scientist...

Faantastic night had by all methinks! : )

Great vibe, music, decor and people... cant beat it!

Anyone else catch Fabio's old skool set in the lounge? He played some seeerious party classics! Was wicked!!!

It was so busy throughout the night, I was roasting, but didnt care and continued to dance and smile at the same time for hours and hours! Needless to say my feet are feelin the pressure today, but in all fairness, was well worth it...

What a night!

What time did he play? It was all a blur for me after a certain point, but I know I enjoyed every one except the Guilty Pleasures set from Johnno. I know a lot of people were loving it but I'm old enough to remember going to awful school discos where all those songs were played, and the memories aren't good, LOL.

I missed it, but did have someone ask me about 3am when Fabio was on......

I was roasting,

I'm not surprised in that dress! Worth it tho'.

and it didn't feel well mixed - maybe that was the idea, to make it like a school disco

Shapeshifters absolutely blasted it. They made tunes I'd normally consider cheese (but matured, quality cheese) sound amazing.

TOTALY AGREED...the Shapeshifters were just superb, and the remixes of the classics along with popular current house tracks were spot on! I've said it once and I'll say it again, The Shapeshifters just belong in The End, it just 'fits'!

AKA looked beautiful and the vip room was just so lovely to sit in while we had our first cocktails face painting session.

At the beginning of the night, I was determined to hear a little of everyone's set, and to get a collection of photos, but after a good dose of Georgia Girl in the lounge, all I wanted to do was party! Then we went to the main room for Basement Jaxx, that was it, I was stuck in the main room until Shapeshifters finished. Who was that playing the last set in The Lounge...

...so unlike me to not take note of the DJ's but I was just so caught up in the party and having such a fantastic time, I didn't even look for a set time sheet!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AKA.....
...AND THANK YOU FOR SUCH A WONDERFUL PARTY!

I've been moaning for the last few months that club nights just aren't doing that well at the moment - they've all either been quiet, full of wankers, had people leaving about 1am, had people sitting outside smoking all night, had no atmosphere, or any combination of the above.

Thursday night (Thursday!) restored my faith in all of the above completely like only The End and AKA seem able to do. Perfectly full, a lovely crowd and busy until pretty much the advertised closing time.

Who was that playing the last set in The Lounge...

Haha - not a clue!

Fabio played from 23.00 to 01.00am I think. I was actually craving a bit of DnB action, so when I saw Old Skool set, I immediately thought it would be something like jungle, but it was in fact old school house. It was certainly a bit of a timewarp!! Things kinda went a bit mental for me when he dropped Orbital's "Chime". That must have been the third time I had heard it in a club environment within the space of a month, twice in Ibiza!!

Gutted I missed the party vibes of The Shapeshifters (had a fantastic time last time I saw them at AKA), but was pretty drained towards the end of Basement Jaxx, who played a really great jackin' set!! Felix adding his distorted vocals in true Jaxx style made it something else!! :)

Thanks for the party AKA & THE END!! :D

ooo! Shapeshifters dropped that as well - I had to shout "chooooooooooon" over the decks at them. Very sophisticated of me.

Don't you remember....we were on the bridge in VIP and they droped Lola's Theme......I actually thought with all our jumping the bridge was going to drop!

Have to say, Buzzin Fly at The End restored all the above for me also about 6 weeks ago!

Love The End (except the door staff)!!
