Exclusive interview with Lisa Pin Up before her set at Pams House and Phunky go west's 1st Birthday!

12 years in the biz, countless releases and probably the nicest lady in dance music. Lisa Pin Up is a living music legend and still at the top of the game. This down to earth and party girl talks to Pams about everthing from up and coming DJs to birthday cake.

What do you like best about playing out? I live for the weekend, love going out meeting people and having a laugh and I even get to hear all my favourite tunes as I am in control of the music! :-)

Where is your favourite place to play? Don't care as long as there is an up for it crowd. From djing I now know so many people from so many different places so it is great to travel around and catch up with everyone.

With so many new DJs breaking through every year, you have been up there at the front of hard dance for over 10 years and still show no sign of dropping in popularity, how do you do it?
Because I still have a passion for the scene and love everything I do, I just cant image not going out at the weekend and djing, been doing it for so long now it is part of my life.

Guide us through a day of Lisa Pin Up
. Wake up 11am, go on exercise bike and have breakfast. Start working around and don't really stop till about 11pm at night with a few breaks in-between. I am usually on the telephone a good few hours a day either to my agent or promoters who need interviews or press photos sorted. Today I had to edit 7 new tunes that I got from my latest record shop, as I like to touch them up to sound just how I like them. I am always doing something like going to photos shoots or occasionally going into the studio to produce and recently I had my our god save the queen tour which took a lot of organisation that I did all myself. Lastly I manage to fit a couple of hours a day just reply to people that contact me though dontstayin and myspace web site as I like to give a bit of time to the people that come and see me at the weekend, I also am a big gossip so love to chat!

You are seen as one of the leading ladies of brands like Tidy and known for playing all over the world, how do you keep your feet on the ground when playing in places like Ibiza and the festivals?
Its great to have been djing as long as I have representing brands like tidy for so many years but my feet are still firmly placed on the ground, you have to stay focused and remember you are doing a job and you want sound good up behind those decks, so I do take a look around while spinning and I think "wow! how cool is this!" but am always concentrating on what I am doing and when finish djing always think how lucky I am to be doing what I do.

A lot of aspiring DJs look up to you, what advice do you have to help them one day perform all over the world? You have to take it one step at a time, hopefully if you are determined and have a passion for the scene you will make it to the top. I have known loads of clubbers at venues I visit tell me they have managed to get a small dj slop at clubs and I never even knew they mixed, but they got the opportunity by going clubbing and meeting promoters on the scene to pass on their mix, which is exactly what I did. Every big dj I know that has made it to the top has worked dame hard to get where they are, so you might see us all having fun behind the decks but behind the scenes we are constantly working hard on the business side of things. It also helps to have a good attitude, horrible people don't usually make it no matter how good a dj you are.

Where do you see Lisa pin up in another 10 years?
Well i have now been djing about 12 years (think that is right as lost count when I started!) but I think I might just be doing exactly what I am now! well that is the plan as love it to much to give up.

How do you see the future of Hard dance now after a great 6 years since its dip in the late 90's?
Harddance, what dip! Yes the whole dance scene is not as big as it used to be with more youngsters going to see bands now, but I don't mind the dancescene becoming more underground, a bit like when I started to go clubbing as it keeps all the idiots off the dancefloor!

After playing for Pams in Norwich for over 10 years can you see Exeter living up the legendary East Anglia night? Actually the clubbers from Exeter are very similar to Norwich, a real friendly crowd that are up for a good time so I know it is going to be an amazing night!

What are you most looking forward to when you come to play Pams House Exeter for the first time and for its 1st birthday? Loads of things, firstly it is a Pams House event which are always good, secondly I love playing Devon and lastly a birthday party, will there be any cake?? :-)

Do you have anything to say to the many hard dance virgins in Exeter to get them down to stomp and be converted? Come see me, don't be afraid I don't bit! and I promise we will have plenty of fun. I play pure banging party music, so if you fancy a stomp and a good time see you at the front of the dancefloor!

You can catch Lisa's Pams House and Phunky 1st Birthday set on the 9th August 2008 @ The exeter phoenix centre.

Advance tickets are on sale from the event page or from Reform records, fore street exeter, solo music, Guildhall exeter and www.exeterboxoffice.com
