Slammin' vinyl complaints: How to improve the fest - your opinions wanted
1) Make the enterence wider:

with only so few channels to allow people in to be searched, the wait in the que at 3pm was over two hours long. This was a small festival, yet the ques for bigger festivals such as Global Gathering were shorter... why?
The length of the que would be understandable if every single person was searched. After waiting for two hours, and discussing methods to stash illicits, and watching people getting more paranoid as they got closer to the front, I was dissapointed to not even be searched. Not even a pat down of my pockets.

2) I heard of quite a few people who got let in and bands put on their wrists, without their tickets being checked or ripped. So they headed out and sold them to touts. Lucky them. Useless hired Staff.

3) same for the slammin' vinyl coaches. Poor choice of pick up points, not explained clearly. Half the return people for the london coach waited at the wrong place due to incorrect information from the coach driver. Although Slammin's "James" was incredably friendly on the phone.
Oh, and no tickets were checked on either our out outwards or return journey on the coach.

4) Stern Faced Security ripping down tents with people inside them on sunday moring before 12am... why?

5) Sound bleed. There is nothing quite so bad as drum and bass with a hardcore donk on it. And nothing else so typical of Slammin' ...re-call transmission '07.

6) Obvious collusion over high prices on food, drink... not enough choice or competition between venders.

7) The weather was beyond our control, but a few more runways, like were placed on the enterence to tents. would have been clever. Runways between tents and to the exits, around the toilet.

8) only Lambert and Butler Fags... *shudders*
was the money from L&B for their exclusive selling rights worth pissing off so many smokers?

9) More chill out areas! The are invaluable when it rains.

10) for VIP tickets, apart from que jump and parking, there was no real benifits, as the mainstage was abandoned ;eavingthe viewing platform was useless.

Come on Slammin' - Getcha act together - we expect more from you than you provide!

has anyone else got any suggestions on how the fest could be improved? Or any more complaints
...can u think of more

3) Better Security, come on slammin', i had numerous people asking me for drugs, n tryin to sell em, rumours were also sum o da security themselves where bein bribed with dem, downright shocking!!!!(BTW i am talking bout da illegal kind)

4) Make sum of the mercandise a bit cheaper.

5) The locations of the toilets was just plane retarded, right ova da other side of the camp site, n hav more o dem.

But, despite these few flaws(IMO), the event went pretty flawlessly, n i had a fantastic time, loved every minute, NICE 1 SLAMMIN'

Non the cash machines were working for people on the saturday night. For that reason I did not spend more dosh getting drunk and eating the nasty food. As soon as got to tesco on Sunday no problems getting cash. That seriously pissed me off.

Luckily I got there early enough on the friday to avoid the queue (at about midday) so I have no real complaints about that, but my friends arrived at half 2 and were queing for nearly 3hrs! Ive done the bigger festivals and walked straight through after showing my ticket so I dont really understand the strict searching/queuing policy for such a small festival. I definately agree the search tent/entrance has to be wider.
Alcohol prices have to come down. £35 for a crate or £4 for one can of beer/cider in the arenas is a joke. Either let people take in their own booze (8 cans per person was never guna last 3 days) or bring the prices down once in the festival. Otherwise ur always going to have to contend with people doing drugs because they're so much cheaper to buy.
Toilets were in an awful place in the normal camping section. How were we supposed to navigate through guide ropes, rubbish and passed out people laying face down in the mud, in the dark?!
All in all I had a great time, as I did last year too. Hopefully, these points will be addressed to make next years Sanctuary even better.

Definatly more runways 2 just the main arenas, a disabled toilet wud be good 2. we got vip os we thought we wud get in quick with no queing and better parking - it took us nearly 2hours 2 get in and people were gettin in quicker than us in the other que. i am in a wheelchair and thought i mite be able 2 at least b able 2 get out of the car at the bottom of the hil and my mate park back up top but that wast allowed so proper missio comin down the hill.got the tent up and went and partied, come back and obviously tents everywhere and i cudnt get bak 2 my tent, was with 2 mates so carried me with afew peps tht offerd 2 help, but the stewards wernt happy 2 help my mates and watched us struggle.no1s fault that tents were so close but wud of been nice if they helped a bit. had a wicked time but was shit not bein able 2 go anywhere on my own.cheaper booze nd food. big up the drum nd bass tent friday nite, was fucking bangin!

That not enough!?? If I could pick out 10 things that pissed me off enough to gripe about them on here I think I would sooner just forget about buying my ticket next year!

It wasn't perfect by all means, one change I would like to see would be the allowance of camping ravers to bring a second daily allowance of alcohol onto the campsite, Ppl will obviously still spend money on drinks/food/merchandise whatever happens. So why not just let us sit in our tents getting pissed with over ravers rather than having to go back to the car to sit there just so you can hbave a reasonable priced drink!

But with that said, I had a wicked weekend and it was a vast improvement on last years!

Very well done Slammin

Response from the organisers:

1) Make the enterence wider:

with only so few channels to allow people in to be searched, the wait in the que at 3pm was over two hours long. This was a small festival, yet the ques for bigger festivals such as Global Gathering were shorter... why? The length of the que would be understandable if every single person was searched. After waiting for two hours, and discussing methods to stash illicits, and watching people getting more paranoid as they got closer to the front, I was dissapointed to not even be searched. Not even a pat down of my pockets.

The wait was because of the final safety check walk around with the licensee and the council. The venue cannot be open until it is 100% safe. We cannot have people entering when plant vehicles are driving around on site. Had ticket sales been higher then the promotoers could of employed more crew staff in to make sure that the who site was ready for 2pm. Remember this festival is not funded by a corperate company. It is not sponsored by a headline sponsor because big companies do not sponsor raves.

------

2) I heard of quite a few people who got let in and bands put on their wrists, without their tickets being checked or ripped. So they headed out and sold them to touts. Lucky them. Useless hired Staff.

unfounded rumour and hear say...

The pick up points were printed on the tickets, and if you were unsure, you could have phoned us in the office days or weeks before the event. we'll make sure tickets are checked in future.

-----

4) Stern Faced Security ripping down tents with people inside them on sunday moring before 12am... why?

There were still people leaving at 2:30pm. So security were instructed to start to wake people up at 12:00. It still took 2.5 hours before the last people were off. What you don't know is that is it only once the last people are off site that we can drive machinery and plant vehicles onto site to begin the breakdown.
Sunday staff were already being paid overtime to start the de-rig on the sunday. We felt that 2pm was a fair time to want everyone off site.

-----

5) Sound bleed. There is nothing quite so bad as drum and bass with a hardcore donk on it. And nothing else so typical of Slammin' ...re-call transmission '07.

We you need to make a compromise here. Both the hardcore and drum & bass tents were positioned on the highest ground. Reason being that should it rain (which it did) they would not be as badly affected internally as they were in 2007. So yes there was some bleed at times but the tents were a lot drier than 2007.

I notice that you have not mentioned how loud all the systems were in the tents. You have not mentioned that this site obtains possible the highest sound levels for a festival site in the country. And that we did not need to keep dropping the levels in the tents.

-----

6) Obvious collusion over high prices on food, drink... not enough choice or competition between venders.

We have nothing to do with the price vendors charge for food. You will find that food prices are always higer at a festival than your average high street. The reason being that we charge the vendors to come in to trade. The reason that we charge the vendors to come in to trade is to subsidise the ticket price so we can keep the ticket price cheap. It's just like when people moan about paying for drinks on a ryan air flight when they have only paid £20 for the flight! Campers were also allowed to bring in BBQs and their own food.

-----

7) The weather was beyond our control, but a few more runways, like were placed on the enterence to tents. would have been clever. Runways between tents and to the exits, around the toilet.

There were runways at every entrance to the tents and around the toilets. The sheets cost £20 each once laid, cleaned and collected. It does not take long to work out that the 400 panels that we used came to £8000 alone.

-----

8) only Lambert and Butler Fags... *shudders*
was the money from L&B for their exclusive selling rights worth pissing off so many smokers?

Just like the answer regarding catering vendor. We will do whatever possible to keep the final ticket price as cheap as possible.

-----

9) More chill out areas! The are invaluable when it rains.

If you were camping you will know that all the outside seating on the campsite area was carried into the campsite tent purely for that reason

-----

10) for VIP tickets, apart from que jump and parking, there was no real benifits, as the mainstage was abandoned ;eavingthe viewing platform was useless.

That's right Q-Jump, parking , free programme, and a huge vip viewing platform. I think we have to be honest here. Was anyone expecting rain like that? all day. all night. We could of left the outside stage open I guess you could have had use of the platform. But then we would probably have to deal with multiple hypothermia cases at around 2am. It's a great shame it rained so heavily. The main stage would have been great but it obviously could not be used because of the weather. You all saw that it was there.

-----

Come on Slammin' - Getcha act together - we expect more from you than you provide!

It would be nice for once if people came on this site and said fair play - we realise that some have and we do appreciate that. 99% of artists played. No medical emergencies, The site was laid out far better than last year. Ther ticket price is still the best value of any dance festival this year.

We do wonder sometimes in this office if we are simply wasting our time.

that's a fair point. i would have thought there would have been lighting there, and there may weil have been - we did have some power outages during the night due to the weather which were fixed as we went along.

the 24 can crates worked out at £1.35 a can IIRC. pretty good value to be honest.

5) The locations of the toilet...

1. drinks prices are in line with any other festival. unlike our ticket price which is around 50% cheaper.

2. we don't set the food prices, the independent food vendors do.

3. we have security, overt and covert, our own teams plus police presence. we also have searches and amnesty bins. if a dealer offers you drugs, you can report it to security or slammin' staff. DO NOT LISTEN TO RUMOURS. they are ALWAYS unfounded.

4. T-Shirts are £10, some hoods from £15, some 6 CD packs from £5 peaking at £15. it doesn't get much cheaper than that. and yet again, our ticket price is 50% cheaper than most other festivals.

5. i didn't spend much time on site personally so i can't really comment, but the council will have signed off the plans approving the positions of all facilities and amenities.

I think it that slammin did really well with this festival my only bad point is the length of time it took to get in and that the main stage started so early meaning that i missed mark eg and m zone due to being stuck in a ridiculous que

To be honest half of these moans are nitpicking little things that most dont give a fuk about anyway - the floor in hardcore and most o dnb wasn't a mingin sludge like last year so you could sit n listen when you was knakered out without bin complete;ly wet n miserable.
It is a outdoor rave! Get on the case and appreciate the music more and then the rest o the stuff which is the same in every other festival ie silly vendor prices etc etc etc wont bother you. Its a bastard that it was rainin again but it wouldn't be a festival if you wern't caked in mud and shiverin afterwards.
If you gonna have a winge then winge bout sumink that can be changed like sound which btw i was well impressed with compared to last year.
