PC Speakers advice...
Hope this is relevant enough for this group!

I've decided to buy some good PC speakers instead of an iPod docking station.

Can anyone recommend some good ones?

If it helps, i've just bought one of these...

Thank you!

If you play a lot of music it might be worth investing in an amp and some decent speakers..

Well if you only plan to play music you only need a simple 2 speaker setup. Maybe a something with a box sub to get a stronger sound.

If you are going to be watching movies then id suggest a 6 speaker surround set. (but it will need a single digital (SPDIF) connection). If your not bothered about movies then 2 speakers are fine.

If you are going to 2 speaker route id suggest something 20-40 watts or you'll get a flat tinny sound.

If you are going the 3 speaker route (2 plus a sub) then 10-20 watts will be fine as the sub will provide the rich punchy sound while the little speakers can just do the tweaty sounds.

Seach google for 'PC speakers' or 'self powered speakers'. Ciao.com and the big review sites will tell you whats out there. You just have to spend half an hour on google/ebay/argos/pc world .com.

Hope this helps.

In my opinion, computer speakers arent worth the money... just hook it into your own amp or hi-fi

best bet is to try some out as everyones ears and perception of what sounds good is different. also as someone suggested look into hooking it up to a decent hi-fi instead of buying PC speakers. for the same price you will get better quality (you will need to buy a seperate matching amp but spend the same money on seperate speakers and amp on a computer speaker set-up and the quality difference will be huge!

At the moment i have £70 in my Paypal account, but this is going up every week lol. Besides i want some good ones, but don't mind paying anything as long as it isn't ridiculous.

It's probably just going to be music tbh. I wouldn't rule out watching tv/film on it completely now that i've got a nice monitor, but i have a TV for that.

I left my hifi at mum and dads when i moved knowing that i was getting a new PC/iPod/docking station.

I haven't got a hugs amount of space (i was going to have to put up a shelf to get a docking station) but i want something good enough to fill my room with sound without it sounding really shit!

I'll check this out.

I have connected my PC to My Hi-Fi Seperates, seeing I listen and Review a lot of Downloads, use my PC for Mixing, watching Online Music-Vids!

So my PC is a Major Component of my Hi-Fi, so I would say, if you can connect your PC to a Decent Hi-Fi, "Do It!!!!!!"

Normal PC Speakers are a No as far as I am concerned!

This would be completely pointless for me though and would mean forking out for a new hifi as well which i have nowhere to put.

I'm getting rid of all my CDs and stereo to replace them with an iPod and docking station. Now i have my new PC that i need to buy some speakers for anyway, it's just occured to me that it is probably a better idea to buy some really good PC speakers instead of the docking station.

Unless that's just me being a bit stupid and i would be better off with a docking station?

Yes, what you just tapped down is fair, and that is a good idea, now my advice is to LISTEN to the PC Speakers before you buy them, if the place won't let you listen to them, find a place where they will. The last thing you'd want is to bring them home, set them up to find they sound Crap!

Sorry to say, with speakers you do need to be very choosy unless you want something which sound like 2 tin cans, how about buying a couple of Magazines, and read-up on what they recommend for your budget, choose a couple of their recommendations and ask to hear them in the shop?

Exactly. That's why i'm asking around to see what people recommend. I don't want to end up with some that are really shit.

Seriously, I have been into Hi-Fi since 1981, every one of the Seperate Components which are all Differnt Makes I have now, I had researched before-hand. Making a list of 3 or so makes I went into my Hi-Fi shop and asked to listen to them.

You go into the shop with the same Attitude, you have a list of what is recommended, the owners will think twice that you Are No Fool. Listen to the makes, then Choose what You Like the Sound-Of.

If they won't entertain you, just say "It seems you don't want My Business or To Be "Recommended On DSI" adding it is One Of The Biggest Clubbing Sites etc! Hmmm, you may be surprised @ what happens next??? :)

Too true, I remember when someone in the LOL - so called Technical Dept. told me that one cannot Format their Virtual-Drives! - LOL!

Now I personally would Recommend "World of Computers, City Road, Cardiff" because their After-sales is Excelent!
