Following an awesome response to the DSI and Dance Island 2009 DJ competition, I’ve been locked away at home most evenings listening to each and every demo received to see which of you has what it takes to perform to festival crowd.

We had some great entries in over the course of the competition, and I was glad that we had 10 places up for grabs, because if I had to refine it down to one winner, the decision would have been very tough.

The key things we were grading the entries on were:

- Beat matching abilities (As in, could they mix!)
- Tune selection
- Did they finish their demo within the 20 minutes specified
- How interesting did they make the mix.
- Finally, could this DJ go the extra mile in some way that made them stand out from the rest.

So, the time that many of you have been waiting for. We can now release to you the 10 winners of the 2009 Dance Island DJ competition….

Particular favourites for me in this competition has to go to Mr Bristow and Swifty B for an amazingly refreshing mix that was completely unexpected, and far from your usual club demo. Playing everything from Ghostbusters and Sinatra, to ATB’s Killer and pumping electro. It also included some awesome rapping courtesy of Swifty, and some amazing scratching that made this demo hard to put down.

So congratulations to all of you. We’re really looking forward to having you down for the event on July 4th.

There are an additional 5 DJ’s being added to the lineup to make up the full 15 hour show. Full set times and lineup will be released very shortly.

To those that haven’t made it through this time round, thanks very much for taking the time to enter, and we will let you know if anything else comes in as we do from time to time.

Jas - any chance of the mixes being made available to download?

Unfortunately we couldn't be seen to be hosting the mixes mate for legal reasons, but perhaps the DJ's may have demos up on line that you can take a listen to ;-)

This is amazing!
One of our biggest dreams is to play at a festival, i would just like to thank Dontstayin and Dance Island for this amazing opportunity :o)
