Drum 'n' Bass DJ, Mistabishi, faces 'miming' accusations

Mistabishi is in all kinds of trouble. The producer behind 'Printer Jam' has been exposed for playing a pre-mixed CD when DJing at a club last weekend.

According to our source this isn't the first time he's done it either. All hell has broken loose on drum 'n' bass message boards and he's had to write an official apology.

When Mixmag spoke to Hospital Records about it yesterday they mooted he might be dropped from the label.

Meanwhile loads of D 'n' B people like Doc Scott, Hype, Commix have been slating him on Twitter.

Drum 'n' Bass DJ, Mistabishi, faces 'miming' ac...
PLEASE READ......

This is how it was regarding Mistabishi.

1. We tried to contact mistabishi for two weeks leading up to the event, with no reply.

2. When he turned up on the night his rig was one akai sampler, i asked him what he needed and he said a phono lead out of the back of a cdj would be fine to connect the sampler. I did this and he promptly said he needed 3/4 inch jack connector to connect it to the akai sampler.

3. We then found him a phono to 3/4 inch jack lead which would of connected the sampler to the mixer and he said" its fine i've sorted something else out."

4. With regards to the space we could of quite easily moved the 3rd deck in the dj box, which would of given him ample room for his rig.

5. It felt like he didnt want to perform live, he then played cd's and to my horror watched him pretend to dj when the pre mixed cd's were doing the work. i dont understand why he could just mix his tunes like a dj should do.

6. We think that mistabishi is a excellent producer but feel cheated on how he performed, we thought the pre made mix cd's was a myth. A lot of our residents were watching him above the dj box and he was definately pretending.

Our night has been running for 5 years and we are always pushing the boundaries and doing things in Reading a bit different, mistabishi set was definately different but in the wrong way. Last night was our 5th birthday and for someone to do this on such an important night has left us speechless.

i personally made a point of playing an entire set consisting of vinyl on this night on 3 decks for the total respect of the format and to show all the people who have adopted ableton and cdjs and all that technology to perform.

So what ? He's a genius producer of great original music - not aware that he ever presented himself as a DJ. Most people will be pleased to see him and hear his music.
JJLinus - who he ?
A small time promoter who made money out of the night.
If DJLinus goes back to his well deserved obscurity nobody will give a damn.
If Mistabishi stops giving us great music - then we really lose something.

Your point is what Andrew-Swann-Octane ?
The guy is a producer - his productions are what he has to offer. What's the big deal about dj's ?
As I said - he hasn't made a big deal about being a dj - he makes music. The dissing seems to be just the lame ranting of a load of people with a limited amount of personal talent or creativity. There are hundreds of dj's but not so many good producers. Give him credit for being prepared to go to a bum place and hang around it till the early hours of the morning with a load of drugged up chavs.
He probably had better things he could have done on a Friday night.

my point is that he should stick to what he is good at producing and leave the rest of it alone

Gotta agree with this, although it has dissapointed me like just about everyone else.

I Love: Mistabishi - From Memory (Matrix Remix)

my point is that he should stick to what he is good at producing and leave the rest of it alone

Fair point.

From what I understand he doesn't disagree with you and has no intention of appearing as a dj ever again.
So if that means you have one less competitor and increased freedom to impress the World with your dj skills I suppose its a victory for you and others like you.
If it means that people who just enjoy his music will never get to see him I think its a great loss to those that love music and the chance to see the people who push it forward by creating new and original stuff.
If he decides to stop producing and persue other creative outlets I suppose we have the little known DJ Linus and his ilk to thank for driving him away from this little corner of the music industry.
Shame imo

""This is old news, those "in the know" have known for a long time that mistabishi cannot dj! Fact!
He plays mix cd's and pretends to go through the motions of mixing, he also on occasion has been known to throw vinyl he was pretending to mix into the crowd only for whoever catches the vinyl to realise that is not the track that was just playing!

Also mistabishi assured hospital records he used samples for printer jam that he himself had personally made, he said he sampled various epson and hp printers, only for hospital records to be contacted by a website that provides royalty free samples to complain that mistabishi had in fact used samples downloaded from their site and not given them a mention... when faced with the truth mistabishi finally admitted this was what he had done and he had lied previously.

ALSO... hospital records gave mistabishi a year to learn how to mix, apperently he just cannot do it properly and failed!

ALLLSSSOOOO....hospital are now telling promoters who want to book mistabishi to perhaps think about booking somebody else. Ive also heard the fact he is an "ex cityboy" is lies as well and hospital records believe mistabishi to be slightly bi-polar... in other words mad!"

UGH

here we go again

DJ - Person who mixes music live to entertain clubbers

Producer - Person who creates music using computers and other equipment usually in a studio alone

Why must we keep trying to make one the other????

If he couldn't get his live setup sorted then why not just say, fuck it, came all the way down here but can't play.... instead of pretending to dj?

I don't give a fuck how good his tunes are. Why mascarade as a dj if you can do it?

its not like he is the first person ever to do it and he definatly wont be the last.

personally, i think he is a prat for lying about the samples on fax machine that just made him look stupid and that is probably why everyone is making such a big deal over the fact he used a pre mixed set from a cd.

Not a good week for DJ/producer types. First MB gets caught short on this, then Rusko gets his CD wallet robbed from Matter the other night;

"from twittah:

ruskoofficial
APLOGIES for my short set and grump-face last nite. Some absolute c-word nicked my cd wallet while i was playin... They cant fkin play em!

ruskoofficial
Whoever has my cds... There is a phone number in the back + a cash reward.... Do the right thing!! Plzzzzzzzz

ruskoofficial
If anyone sees a dj playin my nu shit thats not me @clipzy @jakeshench or @diplo:: break their limbs plz
"

Devastating though this would be having your entire CD wallet robbed, esp. if you're a producer, it is mildly amusing to see him encouraging Clipz and Diplo to batter whoever it was.

then if he isnt a dj he shouldnt be djing at a club!!!

bit harse eh whats got your goat any way why you so defensive of the guy?

i think its weird why would someone go to a club and play a mix cd the buzz of djing is laying down tracks in front of a crowd and getting them hyped.

If this guy wanted to show his productions then he should do a "production set" or something not lie to the management of a club thats having its 5th birthday then waste a perfectly good slot by playing a pre recorded cd. Or just learn to bloody mix if he wants to dj so much.

shame about ruskos cd wallet :(

Wub deserves an A Star for spreading catty gossip.
If Hospital Records is really adding shit to the story they should be ashamed.
Best thing Mistabishi could do would be to move on up to a proper record company that properly develops and promotes its artists.
