DJDownload.com goes into administration
XI
"Dear Label Partner

It is with great regret that we have to inform you that DJdownload Limited has been placed into administration by the Directors of the company effective today.

The Directors have worked extremely hard over the past few months to try and save the company: overheads were reduced and attempts to increase revenues were made but ongoing efforts to raise further finance were unsuccessful. Despite their best efforts the company was not able to continue to trade.

We would like to thank you for your support and business over the years and we wish you all the best in the future."

You used to hear about record shops closing because everyone was using download sites, but now it even appears the download sites are suffering. They were always playing second fiddle to Beatport, is there room for competitors? Beatport has pretty much everything i want to find on there, except the odd rare bits but it's pretty much covered the house, techno and minimal sectors. I always saw DJDownload as the more electro house side of things and my use of the site died with my interest in Electro house many years ago

I used to shop quite often at DJdownload, but now use Beatport virtually exclusively. The offer on Beatport is unparallelled in the genres I'm interested in - most releases are exclusive at least to start with. It's no suprise to me that DJDownload is in trouble, but it's a shame nonetheless. And I agree that their needledrop system is fantastic. The only thing they've got that is better than Beatport.

not really, I think the "competition" needs to pick up their game

Bit like Pioneer being industry standard, however there are many other brands that still do well. You just have to adapt and get on with it

Damn, we're owed huge sales from DJ Download. With regards to the using of the site, we found DJ Download to be much clearer laid out and the needle drop was far superior. Beatport was the daddy though in terms of number of users and sales.
