Apple start a cult (and are we all brainwashed?)
readwriteweb.com

"Recently, a neuroscientist scanned the brains of an Apple devotee with an MRI machine. What he found was that each time the Apple logo was flashed onto the screen, this acolyte's brain lit up in exactly the same region that lights up when a religious person is shown an icon of their faith.

Alex Riley, in his documentary, "Secrets of the Superbrands," set out to figure out "how (the world's most powerful technology) brands - such as Apple, Microsoft and Google - have grown so explosively to become some of the world's biggest companies."

I seen this, but it was also the same for brands like Heinz beans when compared to other brands and such. Hardly a cult haha!

Heinz beans

But an icon none the less. Most people I know refuse to buy any beans but Heinz Beans. It also carries the weight of a cultural icon, a symbol of Britain like Marmite. I don't think that that makes it a cult, but it is interesting how the human mind, en masse, can give meaning to the meaningless.

No other beans taste the same, it's the same with Heinz Ketchup and Branston Pickle and Coca Cola, nothing is quite comparable!

Steve Jobs is smart.
Sells the world Apple's shitty products but would never touch them himself.
Doesn't even use an iMac for his work computer inside Apple headquarters!

Also, does it bother anyone else that Apple's advertising department is so stupid?
"I'm a Mac!" "I'm a PC"
PC = Personal Computer...
I just want to go down there, find the guy who thought up those adds and beat him over the head while yelling "MACS ARE PCS YOU DUMB FUCKING CUNT!!!"

The article isn't actually about Apple as such, more about how brands and fashion etc have taken over from religion in modern society. Apple is just a very good example due to some very good marketing and making tech idiot proof. I do very much respect Apple for what they've done but other than the Ipod Classic, I wouldn't use their products.

I'm starting to hate Apple, but I still like them for this reason. Why would you want a computer that's a pain in the arse to use? I want to spend as little time as possible learning stuff that should be straightforward, so that I can spend more time learning stuff that I actually want to know.

Which makes him a wanker. Inferior products, updates months after release of new products. Shit not working as it should.

Wanker.

How do you know this?

i was going to ask the same thing.

i don't know why people either have to love or hate apple products and be as clear cut as that.

some are fucking amazing and are the best on the market. and others average or below average imo.

I used PC's all my life til I got this job and the MAC I use at work kicks the arse out of any PC i've used. So much easier to use, hassle free, intuitive. No complaints whatsoever.

And if I had enough money i'd be buying a Macbook Pro so I could switch to Traktor from CDJs but alas I do not.

Same. Bought an iMac last year for web/music production, can't imagine going back to a PC.

Think it comes down to whether you actually enjoy doing all of the shit that I consider boring - personalisation, configuration, being able to go "under the hood". Fuck that, keep it simple please.

see since i did media at college when i were a wee one i've always pondered this - my tutors asked if anyone had their own laptops as they were short on resources, i shot my hand up as i was a proud owner of a then high end compaq triple booting gentoo, solaris and windows.

they said i couldnt use it because it wasnt a mac, even though i had *all* the software that was required and it was all fully licensed.

they do the same thing. and if its about the look and streamlineyness of the desktop then thats bollocks because all pc operating systems are fully customisable.

I don't particularly care either way. They both have good points and bad. But by far and away the most annoying thing about macs is the fan boy culture surrounding it.. and the fact that retards use "I'm used to macs" as an excuse for, well.. being a retard.

I recently had a delegate at an event ask me to plug a USB memory stick in to one of our laptops. He actually said "I can't work it out, I'm used to macs", and said it in such a way as to sound like our laptops were inferior products.
You're an inferior product!!

Therefore, I hate macs on principle.
