Harry Redknapp.. England manager
So, 'Arry's' "innocent" meaning that he's now eligable to become the next England manager!

Past managers have got the job based on many variables.. what they've won as a manager, what they've won as a player..... I keep hearing Arry will make a great England manager. Talk Sport are trying to get a campaign together to get him installed ASAP !

Taking all biased out of the equation what do you think ...

1. Is Arry the man for the job ?

2. Isn't Arry the man for the job ?

I personally have mixed feelings. As Tottenham manager he and his management team have taken the team/club up a level. He has without doubt been a great asset to the the club.

BUT ! I think he some major flaws. He has favourites.. they play come what may.. We've seem it at Spurs (ergo Adebayor) He can also alienate players once upset or just doesn't like you that's it...OUT !

Are these the sort of traits that can be transfered to such a job as England manager ? We hear about Arry's man management skills.. Yes, he has them. But lets not forget he's with these players everyday.... He spends most of his time with them, he gets to know them, he understands them. Great for the club. This however wont be the case as England manager... He'll see and be with the players occasionaly. Will he be able to use these so called skills on players he doesn't know ?

I think think the England job should go to Stuart Pearce. He's done his apprenticeship as a player and u21 coach. He has spent far more time with the future England players and above all has a greater understanding of International football. ('Arry's' has one season the the C/L)

You don't think Redknapp knows much about how Terry and Lampard play football? Lampard is his nephew by marriage, I am pretty sure he knows exactly how he plays football

I said apart from those two.... He doesn't really know the rest of the squad....

Capello and Sven had never even managed in the prem before they were appointed,

Yet they both have better records than the 4 previous English mangers ! They were appointed for their tactical ability and the record of success they had as managers. They weren't appointed because they were the people's choice or they were good motivators.

he can get some team spirit going

You think? With the limited time available, I can't see anything changing at all, short term. Maybe in the long term, but even then the divisions are there and deep. The whole lot need sacking off for youth. Play the youth for the next 6 years and they will gain experience and allegiance. Spirit doesn't come from just the manager, it comes from players being together. This lot are so disjointed I feel it impossible to have any kind of worthwhile spirit.

Still haven't had a viable option that is going to do a better job or have more knowledge of the players in the time available so I think he is still best man for the job unless anyone can give me a stronger candidate.

I just don't like the idea of going completely unprepared when there is an option of appointing someone for the long term now and to at least get a bit of practice in.

The appointment you can make now is only as good as your options, the options are so thin on the ground, it makes sense to swallow this tournament as a write off and anything better than that is a bonus, and just appoint Redknapp. Being all pedantic over who will be in charge for a couple of friendlies is only going to harm us long term.

This. Any manager we woud want is in management. Kind of screws us over on the options side.

I'm not talking short term, you are. I'm talking about forgetting Harry and appointing someone long term.

So if Redknapp was prepared to quit Spurs now, you still wouldn't want him for the long term job?

Redknapp is the man for the job. No question. Bottom line is we can write off these Euros anyway. With or without him we still have the same tired, aging squad. Get him in, no expectations for this competition and let him build for the next WC.

No. The opposite. If he can take it now, fine. Best of a no bunch. I don't really see him as the best ever option, just one of very few options.

Personally I see him as the best option regardless of who is available. Another foreign manager here for the pay cheque is not what we need, and of the home grown managers he is the out standing candidate. To lose him because he quite fairly wants to see out this season with Spurs would be foolish, so I expect the FA to appoint someone else on that basis.

It would only seem foolish if you see him as the outstanding candidate, which you do. I'm not sure he's outstanding at all. I'm not saying I know of anyone else better, but I still don't see him as outstanding. I hope to be wrong of course.

Winning an FA cup with Portsmouth, getting them into Europe, taking Spurs from a laughing stock to title contenders, his popularity with the players, the fact he wants the job, and his motivational skills all clearly make him the outstanding candidate. The fact you can't even come up with a single person that might even challenge him for the role shows that he is the outstanding candidate.

All very good at club level in recent years I'd agree.

I actually genuinely believe he is our best chance of glory, we haven't had a manager the players can relate to since Terry Vegetables or Bobby Robson. Both of them were in the Redknapp mould and both took their England sides to semi finals against the odds. We were only penalty kicks away from finals under both managers and people forget about those days and just expect us to fail now whereas they are my over riding memories of the national side. It's only since the FA took us down this modern route of tactical foreign managers that we've been so shit, and that was just a reaction to the glaring ineptness of Hoddle and Keegan.

I can see why he is a hot favourite. I'm just sceptical. Pessimistic until.

He knows the squad and set up better than anyone at present, and has been the most successfull England manager in years.. plus Harry would learn first hand whilst away at the Euros but Sven could have done all the prep work etc

Probably the single stupidest idea to be thrown into the mix yet.
