Matt's weekly Weapons!

Hello All,

I'm Matt and I work for Mixmag, each week I'll be giving you an insight into what what is getting my head nodding and my feet tapping. It might be old, it might be new but what is for sure it'll make you wanna get up and shake what yo' mama gave you. My love for House and Techno is seemingly endless but i'll try and give you a eclectic selection of quality audio, dipping into all genres like a naughty kid in a sweetshop. Let me know your thoughts, debate only increases our love for the beat.

George Morel - Lets Groove - Anyone who knows me will know this to be one of my favourite tracks of all time. A favourite of Raresh and Dixon, this is an absolute main room beast. Clicky, overlapping drums and the most addictive hook I have ever heard. This baby makes crystal meth seem like 'Calpol'. Originally released in 1994 on Strictly Rhythm this is track that has been anointed with the fountain of eternal youth, it never loses its charm. I've witnessed Dixon destroy a crowd single handedly with this weapon.

Tiga - Beep, Beep, Beep (Loco Dice Dub) - I mean I love Tiga, he makes me laugh, but alot of his material is so over the top, cursed by over production. There are so many good elements in Beep, Beep, Beep and the Loco Dice Dub really brings it down to a groovy, throbbing burner that utilises the Tiga vocal to perfection. I love this edit, a lesson on a reconstruction, and a testament to Dice's abilities.

Laurent Garnier - Gnanmankoudji (Horny Monster Mix) - Just try and say this track name I dare you! French icon Garnier creates a titanic track here. First things first, that is an incredible bassline. Pinned on top of that is a hypnotic warbling melodie and a kick drum which pesters your eardrum like a demented blue bottle. Exciting stuff. Garnier is always pushing the boundaries of sound and this is track is an example of his pedigree. I miss him in The End so bad, god rest its soul.

Martin Buttrich - Stoned Autopilot (C2 Version) - Desolat chief Buttrich has been one of the most influential producers of the decade and the Carl Craig re-rub totally knocked my head off when I heard it a few months back. With Carl Craig you get an unrivalled synergy with the dancefloor, a sound that grabs you by the balls and says, DANCE! This effort has everything, a melody that is moody yet involving and a 6am Berlin vibe, you know the time when salty sweat pours down your face and clenching your fist you jump into the infectious rhythm. Right up my street.

Oxia - Whole Life - Everyone knows about Domino and I thought life was all but over for Oxia, with them slipping slowly but surely into the forgotten realms of dark, minimal, demonic techno which has become somewhat redundant. However like a phoenix 'Whole Life' rises from the ashes. With a sexy vocal, a really housey feel, this is so current it hurts. Totally accessible and makes me smile whenever I hear it. I love the percussion and echoing, sliced up vocals reverberating through the track, this is a 100% winner.

See you next week Ladies and Gents,

Much love
Matt x
