nice one tomkat and i never looked back since playing it out at a few clubs, all good but the setting up prior and after takes a little time from djs playing with the cdjs but it worked out at the end.

how do u find the korg nano pad ? there are 2 others to get and the ones on black looks good too

So far so good, a learning curve shall we say. I first used it live this weekend just gone at a house party and it was a little fiddly - had the duration of a song to set it up, someone had a smoke machine stuck on an there was no light to see what I was doing. The grey writting on the multicore cables were of no use so there was a bit of looping going on until we got it working. Once it was all plugged in we were good to go and it worked a dream. Just used the Korg Nano Pad and a four channel mixer.

I learnt the following day that the multicores are not needed if just using the midi alone and not plugging into the CDJs for timecode use. Noob discovery but will save loads of grief in the long run when not using CDJs.

In terms of the Nano Pad, I like it so far. Have been mucking around with various different TSI templates that I have found on the Native Instruments site to map funcationality to the Nano Pad and have modified one for my own use. I'm all very new to this so its a case of figuring out what I use the most out of it and then adding to the mapping.

I'm aware that there have been some issues in terms of the build quality of the Nano pads but I think that as long as you appreciate that its a £50 piece of kit. My main thing has to not cue in heavily on the cue button like I might on say a CDJ 1000. Also the XY pad needs some getting used to but I am sure that will come with time. Would recommend one of these to someone, like me, who has never used this sort of kit before.

yeah all a steep learning curve but good fun indeed as we r all learning new stuff every day/session.

i think i might save up for the kontrol X1 when its out early next year rather than the korg nano but i had a look a the novation launhpad earlier today and its tiny enough to carry around with u but i doubt ableton is compatible/in sync with traktor playing simultaneously otherwise it will be great and looks fab as well with the multi colors lol! will prob get the akai APC for ableton for production rather than djing as will stick to traktor for now.

so much new tech/toys for us djs now and im sure there will be more to come and further advancement !

you doubt incorrectly :P you can smart mix out of traktor and through ableton , im playing about with it at the moment as i really love the idea of using my monome to control fx launches .

so anyways my setup is .
quad core pc running:
ableton 8 and traktor scratch pro 1.1.2 (reverted back to this as my .tsi wont work properly)
a gemini usb mixer
vci 100 x2( i have an arcade edition and a standard black edition )

the .tsi for these is written so that it exclusively controls fx on the faders , loops etc are also launched from here but all mixxing is done on the external mixer , my decks are pretty much redundant

and i have a monome 40H and an arduinome (both of which are used more in ableton or at least they will be when i figure it all out )

im really liking the look of the novation launch pad and for that money its an excellent bit of kit so i can see it on the cards shortly

sounds cool and & how do u smart mix between traktor & ableton ? care to explain in a bit more detail for the clueless ? lol

the monome 40h looks like the launhpad too - how r u finding it & how much did it set u back £££ ?

the arduinome looks like the monome clone - whats the difference in terms of functionality & price ? luving the pretty colors lol

monome i bought for £400 from the original set they released .

arduinome you have to build yourself from scratch id say mine without the case cost me about 200 but ive recently done some pricing and reckon i could get all the parts for about 120 as long as 5 people want them . its the cost of getting the circuit boards printed that makes me need to do them in fives . i may spend this summer making some so ill let you guys know nearer the time if there is enough interest . the whole point behind monome was that it is an opensource project so all software for it is written by the community . TBH i see no reason why a launchpad couldnt be used as a monome it should be able to function with all the monome software just depends how easy it is to configure .

as for the smart mixxing there are some amazing tutorials as well as the ableton files needed available on dj tech tools ..

so perhaps its better to spend £150 on the launchpad rather than £120/400 on the arduinome/monome if it can be configured with the same functionalities ?

All about the midi fighter. I probably wont buy one but am considering putting one together myself with my mediocre electronic knowledge, can't be that hard. :-)

It a nice piece of kit - I like the whole home brew feeling of getting things to work with Traktor, dare I say, it opens up way more opportunities than my old CDJ 1000s.

Has anyone had a go on the Novation Launch Pad but with Traktor instead of Ableton?

Don't I've spent the last hour or so swooning over the midi fighter - does look pretty sick. Love the way you can mod it, paint it and all that. I like the look of the one with the joysticks on it too, that looks cool. :-)

More the merrier!!! I've only got a Nano Pad which I got as a cheap in road when I got my TSP at the beginning of October. Its good and cheap but quite limited, having to constantly jump scenes is a pain and can cause mistakes.

There is so much good kit about at the moment!!

Sweet, they look pretty good too. The sticks look almost like the analogue sticks from PS control pads.
