Hey, i new to tracktor, have tracktor scratch pro, very disappointed with the user manual its tripe! so any help on the FX or anything else would be great! especially about running 4 decks ... we have 2 vinal and 2 cdj which we want all running and are a little lost on how to go about it!

I'm struggling a little with the manual too; it does show the basics of what you need to do to set up, a little bit about the effects and thats about it. I've only had it a few weeks but have spent loads of time reading up and watching videos on youtube. I'm no expert but there might be something I may have stumbled across.

What would you like to know?

I have traktor scratch pro 1.2 i run mine on a mac book pro i also have an a & h xzone 1d but i cant set it up to work.I start off by plugging my usb xzone lead into my mac then go in to tracktor then I go to prefernces then control manager. Now when i try and select the device all i can select is generic midi ? next to devices is in port and out port the xzone comes up in them sections but thats it. All my mapping is done in the assingnment table but my xzone is still not working.

Have u tried loading a standard tsi. Template for your Xone? Do u need to instal drivers for it? Bit of a Noob reply from me I'm afraid. :-)

coolio, just trying to get into grips on the FX section per my query as to how to assign the knobs/buttons on a midi, say a korg nano as an example or perhaps the new kontrol X1 which will probably solve the problem and makes it more hands on i guess.

looks very kool indeed and will prob need 2 of these for 4 deck mixing and fx ! shame they dont come with soundcard so how does traktor pro and not scratch pro/LE version work with these as u need the audio 8 interface to link them up ? guess time will tell and looks great to just play with the mixer and 2 x X1 without touching the laptop!

i had problems with my VCM100 initially too but once i got the preferences sorted, it plays and maps it automatically, perhaps u should post this on the NI website/forum section and u will get reply back or better still e-mail support and u get an email back pretty quick.

If they came with a soundcard they'd have to release 2 different products as Xone have done with the 1d and 2d. You need 2 of them for controlling 4 decks so you wouldn't need 2 soundcards. Plus the Audio 8 is the best soundcard on the market right now, most people have got them already so adding a soundcard would be selling people something they don't need. Plus would push the price right up and make them way more than the Xone 1d's.

I have the all the midi mappings set to me Xone 3d which allows me to operate without touching the laptop

yeah got all that but its mainly for new djs who wants to try out traktor and dont wanna fork out £300 for an audio8 soundcard so i guess they just have to bite the bullet & spend the dosh on it. i also find the cabling a pain when djing on traktor after another dj on CDJs unless its already set up prior and does not get in the way of the other dj play b4 or after especially if the booth is small and mixer is massive and stuck on the booth. oh well... i guess the cdj 2k will resolve this problem so look fwd to 2010!

yeah thats all well & good but u dont take your xone 3d out to gigs, do u ?

also if they did have a xone 3d/4d at the venue, can it be mapped quite easily ? and i understand it has a soundcard in them so an audio8 is not required ?

I haven't got round to playing out on Traktor yet. Probably gonna do it at some point at Public Life before the end of the year and i will take the Xone 3d with me. Gonna get a flight case for it soon.

I've not tried plugging into a different 3d but i expect i wouldn't need to do anymore configuration. Not that i've ever seen a 3d or 4d installed in a club anywhere in London. The 3d has an inbuilt soundcard but it only has 3 paired outputs so you can't use the 4th deck unless you're controlling the levels internally which is pretty pointless. The 4d has 10 paired outputs which can be assigned to various different channels across the mixer, so you don't need the audio 8 with 4d but you do with the 3d

setting traktor up is easy once you have done it a few times. it takes me less than 2 mins to plug cables in. can do it with eyes closed these days using just touch

before any gig i already have the software set up with tracks loaded and make sure my battery is fully charged on laptop as some booths i have worked in have had no power points free to plug anything in.
i always have a 4-way extension in my bag incase of this situation.

i also have the timecode burnt onto discs with some audio tracks at the end in case of any technical issues with the software for quick rescue , has only happened once when laptop over heated and switched itself off lol.

have only played out with time code vinyl a few times as these days not many bars and clubs have turntables

Hey Techfish, do you have to perform any wizzardry to get the time code on to a blank CD or is just a case of burning it off?

i used nero and just used the copy cd option.

if you have not got nero , rip the cd at high quality wav file and burn as audio cd

ok gotcha and i think my upcoming gig will have the 4d so i might just plug my macbook to it as it has an inbuilt sound card :-) just gotta make sure i get it mapped out b4 hand otherwise i will use my vestax midi which has a built in sound card.

played out several times with it incl pacha and basically i will mix in on a CD when taking over from the previous DJ and just plug the other CD inputs into my midi, sorted :-)

i know it may take a few mins to set up the audio8 but trust me if its a massive mixer and u can turn it round or look at the back of it in a badly lit club, its a nightmare to plug it in and definitely interupts the previous dj unless of couse u turn up early when the club opens to set up or other djs have them but i doubt they will leave their audio8 behind or for serato djs, their Rane SL3 behind.

Its all good & as richie hawtin says it definitely adds creativity to your sets :-)

all i need is another device like the novation launhpad for traktor & will be a happy bunny!

ok back to the topic of FX >> whats your fav to use ??? echo/gater/reverb, etc.. ? also how many do u use during a set ? less is more ? or do u use the mixer's FX unit instead, eg. on the DJM 800 ?
