i use mainly the beatmasher and gater the most , and use all effects in chain mode. just starting to get around to setting parametesr of some of the other effects and combining to make my own unique fx tricks.

dont really like some of the fx on the djm 800 . sound tacky now as i have heard them being cained by shit djs who will bang a phaser over any thing and they really predictable and not very creative. some djs have given the djm 800 a bad image

i like to use the fx subtlety so that they compliment the music and you dont really know that i have messed with the original but gets people thinking. like to keep people guessing . adding fx over old soul funk disco and house records is cool and adding a modern twist with loops ect

all good dude, just a quick question, does the FX get switched on when u use the filter knob right above the key knob as mine doesnt have the ON button (orange) per the screen shot below ?

also how do u assign the filter knob to one of the knobs on the midi controller, eg. i want to assign it to the left/right balance knob on my midi as i hardly use it so will be good get the filter knob on traktor assigned there ?

Unfortunately the buttons don't switch on when the FX buttons are switched on per channel, but it guess you probably could do it in the settings with modifiers if you wanted.

Assigning the balance should just be a case of getting TSP to learn the function in the settings. If you have spare buttons, you could use these are your effect selectors and use the balance to control the parameters. I set something similar up to this on my Nano Pad at the weekend.

So he can control all 4 decks at the same time. When you use Traktor in the way Hawtin does you need to be able to change controls at all 4 decks at the same time. With 1 controller you can only adjust 2. You have to remember Hawtin doesn't have to pay for these controllers. And even if he did, the guys got plenty of money. Why would you want to dick about toggling between controls when you can just use 2 and have it all set out perfectly?

nail in da head mate! i guess for us mere mortals, we might have to toggle between the one control to save the dosh i guess. u gonna get one ?

thanks for your feedback but none of it makes sense lol

however, i managed to solve 1 of my queries above & got the ON/OFF buttons working by switching from 4 FX to 2 FX units so its per the screenshot above :-) FX r all go now!

i still want to assign the FILTER function/knob on Traktor to the Left/Right balance knob on my controller but can't find it under Preferences under Controller Manager or Effects. I dont want to muck about the Device Setup too much so any ideas on how to map the Filler to the L/R knob will be great!

Also whats the difference betweeen "Chained" and "Advanced" effects under the FX Panel Mode ? ive got mine chained but just wondered what's the difference.

I don't see the point of getting one at the moment. I haven't used Traktor at a gig yet. Not sure when i'm going to either. Quiet happy with my vinyl (Especially as i spent a fortune in Hardwax, Berlin, yesterday). I've got it all mapped out nicely on my Xone 3d so i'm not going to replace that as i use it with Ableton and i don't see the point in replacing something that works perfectly well at the functions i want it to perferm. I'm sure plenty of djs will sell their 1d's and get these just because they're the new thing. I've got all the dj equipment i want at the moment. Any money i spend will go on production. Just picked up a maschine on Friday and i want to get another hardware synth as well.

chained will just loop in the preferences you set to each effect using advance mode. setting wet dry and time ect.

advanced is what you use to set fx parameters.

have either chained on or both to get more creative with fx .

sounds cool & fair enuf mate, how r u finding maschine & do u use it for traktor/ableton/both/production ? i think its a better choice than the novation tbh. what hardware synth will u be getting ? r u producing using ableton / logic ?

so i guess chained is ok but dont really understand it until i see and hear it in action i suppose as its not too clear above or i just dont get it, ie. how do u set fx parameters or be more creative with either chained/advaced modes ?

btw - r u able to answer my query above about mapping the filter function to my dj controller L/R balance knob by using your funky diagrams/sreenshots step by step ?

I only got the Maschine on Friday and i was in Berlin all weekend and went to see Michael McIntyre last night so haven't got it out the box yet. Gonna whip it out tonight and start playing about with it. I wasn't aware you could use it with Traktor. It's a production tool, not a piece of equipment for DJing. I'm gonna run it as a vst in Ableton for production. The Maschine and Launchpad are completely different products. The launchpad is just a controller where as the maschine is a software / hardware production studio

i am 100% sure ive seen a few djs playing out with maschine incl hawtin, et al.. and was thinking of getting 1 myself and it can be used as both a dj or production tool too... let me know how u get on...

yes i know and have not changed it to advanced as yet. i did try it for a few minutes but can see not major differences so switch it back to chained...

Hawtin uses it with Ableton to create live loops which he then plays in conjuction with Traktor. Been messing about with it in the last couple of days and it's a real nice tool. The hardware interface and the software interface works really well together. Just working my way through it and going through the tutorials on the NI site at the moment

that is spot on and what im looking into doing ! is there any other "good/recommended/stable" dj controller/production out there which does this, ie. ableton/traktor simultaneously..

if u come across any good vids/tutorials, feel free to post it here too
