I would have to agree with Jay, that about half of the dj's who played are already well established....But maybe there isn't enough new talent out there at the moment!!!!
I do think that if there is another comp it should be for new guys or women only, and not for those who play on a regular basis, as everyone knows this is a hard scene to break. :0)

The 1st War of the DJs was packed with Djs all nite and was just too much of a squeeze. Rich gave me a chance to play and he'd never heard me thats cos I'd never played before. This time round with such a big prize he wanted to give people a longer set but to make itfair he ran heats at Indulge on several thursdays preceeding of which I understand not many people bothered turning up?

Yeah rich gave me a chance at media too, so wasn't havin a pop, was just sayin that in my opinon it would of been good to see new people. The heats could of been bedroom dj's only (if there's enough). knew the heats were at indulge.... although didn't realise people didn't turn up. D'oh !!!

A good comp anyway..... fingers crossed for another.

to another chap who's been a Pams house resident for twelve years!!

I doubt that mate as after Pete and macca left , I'm the longest serving resisdent since 1999, but well done ruddaz anyway.
I defo think there is more talent out ther, they just probably don't fancy entering cos there are club players playing. maybe a bedroom dj's comp with some club spinners playing after. alot fairer I think.

Name me a promoter who would promote a night with only novice DJ's, and then try and charge on the door?

Now thats bent!!

Listen. I'm not sayin do it in a fuckin superclub! Room 2's are great for this sort of thing , big dj line up room 1 , comp in room 2.
Comps make it good for clubs cos every dj that competes will bring a big group of supporters which a) pay to get in b) spend at the bar. why do you think clubs run comps? it gives them the heads up on up and coming talent ( which they then employ for peanuts ! ) and it gets people thru the door with large groups of friends. its been going on for years!

My comment to Rich pissing off to London had nothing to do with taking the idea there, it was making a point that is it really worth staying in Norwich when he trys to do something and is ridiculed for it.

But lets face it Rich is a big boy and i'm sure if he was here he could look after himself!!!

My point is:

lil groover, millsy, matt knight, jonny cash ,miss vich, just peck, diddy and many more DJ's who are now playing in Norwich were all given an oportunity through this competition, so through this night Norwich now has roughly 10 more regular DJ's, unfortuantely Norwich doesn't churn out another 20 bedroom DJ's every month to service this night, so sometimes it has to be mixed up a bit.

Back to my point, why can't we talk about what is right with this event rather than picking holes in a competition which gives playtime to alot of DJ's who don't get alot!!!!

Damn right, all this talk about how it should be done after the event is daft, next time more experienced people should step up first rather than pipe up after. I know that Rich gave me the chance to play at the first war of the dj's (which was the first time I'd ever played) and now I'm hooked!!!

It was a cracking night and I'll def be signing up for the next one.......Jimmybee I challenge you to do the same!!!!!!!!!!

That's not strictly true, is it? Some were playing before this comp thing started, and most are still not playing regularly. But I'm just being contrary now for he hell of it

Ruddaz won....? after stoppin the track that was playing lol

congrats Lee!!!

In My opinion from what i heard upstairs...

Millys... great tune selectiong BUT have to say that as ya played some of the tunes in my set lol, good effort althought a few break downs were mixed in rather than beat matching still the chap had a good following and certainly won the crowd response coz after that upstairs emptied!!! it then made it that much harder for all others to follow with that kind of support, all in all not a bad effort, keep pluggin away!!!

Johnny-Cash... good tune selection once again and certainly seemed to enjoy it had a few peeps at the front lappin it up and beat mixing was ok a couple of wandering mixes BUT not a bad effort, nice one fella!

MissVich... my my my.. up until the point were she pressed wrong button and stopped the music, personally i thought her mixes were really good slightly pipping Johnny til that point with tech ability, had them mixes loacked on!!! you gooo girl!! keep up the good work!!!

Marc Barnes... slightly diaspointed ya wouldnt lend me bat man BUT all in all a very good set tight mixing and tune selection was good love the basement jaxxs tune, thought it was between me and you to be fair...

Ruddaz... very good tune selection was great to hear him play something different to wot everyone knows him for, technically was ok up until he stopped the tune that was playin so ya were not on ya own Vich!!! thought that should of hindered his chances, plenty of use of the effects, nice one feela!!!

Funky-Toast... have to say not my best set BUT i beleive any DJ will tell ya that ya CANT play an empty dance floor there is just no energy to feed off BUT managed to get a few peep up with my tune selection!!! thought my tune selection was good, and thanks to the 7 or 8 peeps who went out of there way to come up into the DJ booth and thank me for my set and buy me drinks.. .nice one!!! its these moments that mean more to me than winning a comp!!! BUT i HAVE to say i didnt see any judges for my set....??????

Johnny Airhorn... great tunes mate sorry didnt stopp for the duration BUT was knackered and to be fair had enuff and wanted my bed lol, technicall good from wot i heard!!

well peeps that is my opinion on what i heard.. nothing personal

have to say was slightly disapointed to see Harry was playin downstairs...??? nothing personal chap as loved the tunes BUT with the club very low in attendance that night i thought it would of made sense to close downstairs and possibly get the rest of the DJ's and Crowd upstairs, like soo many promoters do later in the night!!!

all in all a good night for tallent coming thru the scene, like Jim says i have never heard soo many new DJ's play downstairs has to admit i DONT know names or faces that played downstairs, think i see some chap using a lap top...?? also heard one chap let a tune finish them pressed start on the other CDJ but tune selectin downstairs was good... to all the bedroom DJ's downstairs keep pluggin away practise makes purfect and playin events like this can only help build ya confidence and help ya progress

Thank you Toasty... I have to say I think your assesment of the djs upstairs was fairly spot on.....apart from i cant actually remember anything after Ruddaz...ooops... I think everyone i heard had a good night, if you take how long we've been doing it and Millsy (2 weeks apparently)...good effort mate...Jonny and Marija ( a few months)...good efforts too then i think overall everyone put in a good performance based on their experience and a good night was had

We can all sit and slag off things after the event and i'm sure we would all do things differently BUT overall this event is a good thing giving some people who wouldnt normally get a chance to play out an all to scarce opportunity. So keep up the good work and keep giving people that opportunity.....

And Ps...I thought when Ruddaz stopped the track there were no judges in the room either....lol

cheers fella, its not a dig at anyone just my thoughts on the night, i am not biast just wanted to put my thoughts down as i think the likes of millys, johnny and Vich need to take on compliments it all helps with confidence!!

And Ps...I thought when Ruddaz stopped the track there were no judges in the room either....lol

lol i swear i see Alex upstaris gettin poked in the eye from some lady at the time of it and heard a comment along the lines of "we all do it..?? he wont be marked down for it" havin said that he was prob the only DJ to use the effects unit to its full capacity during his set

keep bringing these DJ's thru as i beleive there is not enuff chances out there for the bedroom DJ's to shine, cant beleive Millys has only been playin 2 weeks... even better set knowing that!!!

Hats of to Harry for organising it... is Harry on the Boat....?

Yeh that sounds right! Normal night out for me!

Im not going to deny it but i think stopping a track dead is not a particularly a bad thing in my opinion if you play brilliantly the rest of the time

Toasty I do distinctly remember sitting on the speakers next to the DJ stand during your set and then I sat round the corner listening the set but more importantly everyone has fed back really good things about the event.

So what if some of the people are old or new. Its a DJ comp. Maybe a bedroom dj comp is a good idea but then out of all the dj's only a couple were brand new or hadnt djed out before so would we get enough interest?
