Drum 'n' Bass DJ, Mistabishi, faces 'miming' accusations

Mistabishi is in all kinds of trouble. The producer behind 'Printer Jam' has been exposed for playing a pre-mixed CD when DJing at a club last weekend.

According to our source this isn't the first time he's done it either. All hell has broken loose on drum 'n' bass message boards and he's had to write an official apology.

When Mixmag spoke to Hospital Records about it yesterday they mooted he might be dropped from the label.

Meanwhile loads of D 'n' B people like Doc Scott, Hype, Commix have been slating him on Twitter.

PLEASE READ......

This is how it was regarding Mistabishi.

1. We tried to contact mistabishi for two weeks leading up to the event, with no reply.

2. When he turned up on the night his rig was one akai sampler, i asked him what he needed and he said a phono lead out of the back of a cdj would be fine to connect the sampler. I did this and he promptly said he needed 3/4 inch jack connector to connect it to the akai sampler.

3. We then found him a phono to 3/4 inch jack lead which would of connected the sampler to the mixer and he said" its fine i've sorted something else out."

4. With regards to the space we could of quite easily moved the 3rd deck in the dj box, which would of given him ample room for his rig.

5. It felt like he didnt want to perform live, he then played cd's and to my horror watched him pretend to dj when the pre mixed cd's were doing the work. i dont understand why he could just mix his tunes like a dj should do.

6. We think that mistabishi is a excellent producer but feel cheated on how he performed, we thought the pre made mix cd's was a myth. A lot of our residents were watching him above the dj box and he was definately pretending.

Our night has been running for 5 years and we are always pushing the boundaries and doing things in Reading a bit different, mistabishi set was definately different but in the wrong way. Last night was our 5th birthday and for someone to do this on such an important night has left us speechless.

i personally made a point of playing an entire set consisting of vinyl on this night on 3 decks for the total respect of the format and to show all the people who have adopted ableton and cdjs and all that technology to perform.

If Hospital Records is really adding shit to the story they should be ashamed.
Best thing Mistabishi could do would be to move on up to a proper record company that properly develops and promotes its artists.

So, you're saying that Hospital isn't a proper record label?

Wub deserves an A Star for spreading catty gossip.

As said, it was taken from another messageboard.

This, however, is a release from Hospital management themselves;

"We are gutted to hear about all this. James Mistabishi made a big mistake.
Hospital knew nothing about any of this, until after the event.
The promoters and host djs LAOS booked James in good faith – and that they are being accused of lying is nonsense.

For the record, the first half of James’ set was mixed off vinyl and cd. Faced with one useless turntable, James panicked, and used two mix CDs from his bag to make up most of the rest of the set. As the guest dj, it was his decision. It was a huge error of judgement, and one which he now severely regrets.

LAOS were in no way involved in any of this, and to our distress, are being accused of complicity.
Like Hospital, they knew nothing of it, and are as upset as we are.

Mistabishi has made a sudden impact on the drum+bass scene with his music, but is an inexperienced deejay.
The reality of dj performance is too-readily taken for granted, and in that respect, he has come up short.

Hospital are one of the very few labels in drum+bass that continues to push vinyl+dubplate deejaying, and all our artists use records as their primary - or only - format for dj sets. We are extremely upset that something like this should happen.
James Mistabishi has now committed to us that he will be cutting dubs of all the tracks he wants to play out, and from now on will be performing with vinyl and dubs.

So they are supporting him to an extent, but also letting it be known they don't condone his actions, and what happened was an error of judgement on his part.

From what I see you are unable to be a Dick yourself LB-HTWAD - so what would you know ?

very true but i know what one is!

in this case maybe it was a severe error of judgement on his behalf after reading what hospital have to say on the matter..... on the other hand it could be a cover up

one things for sure we will never know and i but mr mistabishi is suffering for his mistake now.

Glad you like my trousers - a lot better than poor Mistabishis much criticised choice of knitware LOL

Hadn't read the statement by his Record label - that seems fair enough. All seem to agree it was a low grade venue anyway.

What I'm saying Wub, is they aint exactly Warner Records or similar.
Somewhere like that's where he'd probably be better off than sodding about playing stuff in pokey minor venues in the early hours of the morning - that's a mugs game.
I suppose you are the exception to the rule - just like the prick who started this whole storm in a tea cup. Who really cares if its a CD - not the kids paying at the door and dancing to the music.
