Each & every year- just before the air starts to get properly warm, a special venue namely Camber Sands - Pontins is hired out for raver upon raver to unite, travel and have a kick ass time and party for a whole weekend!

During this time a breaking new talent competition is run by none other than H.T.I.D them selves…

This year saw finalists from all over once again make it through but only two can win- an MC & a D.J.

I received a text from a friend and artist who was also in the competition, but didn’t make it this time round alerting me of the two prestigious winners…
Talent and luck in the clouds above shined down upon none other than: MC Surgeon from Brain Storm & Hyperbolic and our very own Nicky D !

I wanted to catch up with the teari ‘N’ two to find out where they are at right about now, and how they are feeling after the dust has- kind ‘a’ - settled…


First off- a U.K Hardcore MC & a Female D.J who smashes up the hard dance and hardcore alike- Two very different people!- I have met and worked with both of you previously, but had you either met before the event- and how were you feeling at the start of your journey!??


Nicky D:

"The journey was good, I was in a cheery mood and the weather was nice. I had no car problems at all, I felt sorry for you Will with you mission getting there, i'll let you explain !!!! I was so glad that I managed to get a chalet with some randoms ( Sorry !!!! your no longer randoms)"

MC Surgeon:

"Well the event didn’t start that well as we broke down on the motorway a hour from Camber Sands and was towed to the event by AA. (Arriving in style) lol my cars still there now I think, its being scrapped. Lol RIP Beast
Nicky n me had never met before but was actually in the same chalet together. We only had 3 people In mine n we needed another person, then I saw Nicky’s post on DSI that she needed accommodation. So I rang her up n we sorted it out. Was well random us both winning, considering the situation."


In the competition (for those that don’t know-like myself!) : ( ;) How is it structured? I.e. are you paired as a team or are you working with a D.J/MC of choice!?

Surgeon:

"Well there was 6 DJ’S but only 5 MC’S, so the MC’S were paired with 1 DJ, then after the fifth set they announced the MC winner and I did final DJ’S set, which was Nicky’s."





To both of you!- How were you feeling in terms of adrenalin and nerves!?- I know I get a good case of the butterfly’s at the best of times before getting on stage/ let alone a competition!

MC Surgeon:

"In the days leading up to it I wasn’t nervous at all, I couldn’t wait. But soon as I was there that’s when they started, especially as we had wait an extra hour to go on. Once I got on the mic though all my nerves went."


Nicky D:

"I felt rather nervous, once all the djs and mc's arrived that was it. Oh and I saw there was a camera man so I fell even more nervous lol, but I just thought to myself I will do my best and enjoy myself."

What did you do *if anything to combat this!

Nicky D:

"See I didn't have the option to drink as I was going back home that day so I just dealt with it. I could have done with a double vodka Redbull !!!!"

MC Surgeon:

"Basically necked 3 pints." :D



Could you talk us through your sets- and what happened!:

MC Surgeon:

"I was on second with DJ Unstable, and as it was held in the Queen Vic pub everyone was still sitting at their tables with their drinks. But liking the challenge, the set couldn’t of gone any better. It was partly down to Unstable I think as he played some wicked tunes that were really good to MC to, thanks again man. Tbh I didn’t actually want the set to end as was enjoying it so much!"


Nicky D:

"I was on last which made me more scared as I heard all the other djs and they were wicked, I knew in my mind I had to do my best and not to worry about it. I loved playing, but the 10 minutes did go rather quickly, I made sure I had some fun mixes planned and some happy tracks playing and I even got some up dancing. So thanks to all that stomped to my mini set"

So out of all the entrants- and there were a few of you!!!- When was it announced and what were your first feelings after!?:

Nicky D:

"Well when they were announcing the winner of the mc competition, I was setting up so I was a little distracted, I heard they announce Mc Surgeon as the winner and that made me happy as I thought he deserved to win. It was also a bonus to have him mc with me. Dj Ramos & Clodhopper were judging and said it was a tie between me and N-ZIME + DEFY and they would let the crowd decide. I think that was fair but in my heart I thought id lose as I didn't have any support with me. But I got the biggest cheer and won, I was so suprised I couldn't stop smiling. I rung my hubby, sister, dad and friends who were all itching to hear, I couldn't really believe me and Mc-Surgeon had won !!!!"

MC Surgeon:

"Well any one that knows me will know that I’m always late and they couldn’t actually find me for the announcement. When I realised though I ran to the stage where Static n Enemy had us lined up for the decision, then went through each MC to see who got the most noise. The cheer I got was absolute amazing, Static actually had to tell them to “ Hold It Down” twice so the next MC could be judged. It was a great feeling knowing that 90% of the crowd had never even seen me before."




Then what happens after - did you both go to perform on the main stage at all- what prize is awarded- apart from super stardom! *wink wink!

Nicky D:

"After the announcement I went home and returned on the sunday night to play in the main arena. I was blown away with the room. It was the biggest room I have played it. It was brilliant. We get bookings throught 2009 with HTID so you will see us out and about soon"

MC Surgeon:

"Yeah we did the first set together in the main arena on the Sunday night. I was pretty worse for wear from celebrating the night before, but once I got on that HUGGGE stage the adrenaline just took over, was an incredible feeling. I Def want some more of that!!"


So- what now!?- Nicky you are totally on FIRE right now!- Your track hitting number one in the TRACK IT DOWN Hardcore Charts!- a Booking at Hardcore Addiction this Saturday!- & Surgeon yourself are on the busy tip too!!!- Hypercore on the horizon, and your residency with D.J Ballistic in May back at Brain Storm!- It’s all pretty much go!
Please tell us how it has affected you and any immediate musical future plans- apart from taking a well earned holiday!?

Nicky D:

"It's been an amazing week for me, I still can't get over it lol. Alive (Hardcore remix) hitting number 1 just topped it for me. The original, Audio Hedz & Emilio remix are all in the top 100 too so im pleased about that. Next up im in the studio with Alex Mac & Zeebra Kid and Nick from ELEMENTS), when we get together we do Hard Trance remixes. (Not telling you what we are remixing though hehe), then is my booking at Hardcore Addiction @ Club Life 28th March, I really can't wait for this, my first London Hardcore booking. I'm a hard dance dj so this is a new beginning for me, who knows what will happen!!! I will 100% make more Hardcore tracks and play out as much as I can. God id love to have a holiday, I deserve it, who's gonna pay for me to go away then ????? Im thinking Mexico"


MC Surgeon:

"Holiday? What’s that? Lol I’m on the right path I think so I’m just gonna carry on as normal, building up my fan base, promoting my radio show with DJ Ballistic (kraftyradio.com mons 9-10pm) Plus Myself n Ballistic have got a new tune coming out with Joey Riot “The Way We’ll Always Be”. So alls good in the land of Surgeon."

Just before I wish you all the very best- and say big up your chest- yes, yes!- What advice would you give entrants in your position- next year!?:


MC Surgeon:

"Buy everyone in the pub a drink before your set. Hahaha seriously though its all about confidence, the crowd don’t wanna see a nervous MC. So stick out ya chest n have fun!!"




Nicky D:

"Prepare your set. If you only have 10-15 set you really have to do something different. Like MC Surgeon said, be confident and lively too ;o)
