So Z008, what did you think?
Personally I thought it was a total letdown to be honest, 7 of the acts I went to see didnt even play due to poor organisation, loads of hassle getting in and camping was full. Plus the whole "VIP" thing was a total joke..!

All in all not impressed..! If I'd actually paid for tickets I'd be absolutely fuming..!

Thoughts anyone?

:)

I can deal with missing an act because i was watching someone else. Missing an act because they've refused to play due to no evidence of them being able to get payed is a completely different matter.

But something I always find hard to swallow about these big events and the same thing applies to every single one is how people moan about not seeing everyone they wanted to see. When you start getting into to multiple arenas unless you can somehow bend time and space how the hell can you see all the acts???? Promoters have to charge mega money to get all these acts and these costs have to be passed down to the festival goer yet the festival goer is NEVER gonna get to see all these acts at all....

I don't really get your beef here, not one of us complained about how at festivals you don't get to see everyone, that is obvious to anyone who's been to a festival before, the issue is going to a festival for particular acts which for me were 8 or 9 who either didn't turn up or didn't play as they weren't getting paid.
Sure we weren't playing the very latest uber cool minimal techno from the newest swedish producer on the block that only the elite know about and hell we even played tunes which we're more than a week old but what we did do I think rather well was rock the crowd.

I didn't think this discussion had entered into the whole funky house versus minimal boring debate we are all so sick of but as you mention it, if you go to a festival as I did for the music you like then for me I'm not going to enjoy it when this music isn't supplied, I'm glad you all had a good time with whatever you played be it not by a GERMAN producer, Swede or man from Mars, but for me the issue still remains that the music I love (not just coz I think its "cool") was not there as promised.

im with millska on this one, for me its bout the atmosphere more than the music, cos the music jus aint doing it for me as much these days. if i was peeved about an act not turning up i jus said oh thhats a shame an toodoled on down to another tent that had a sound that caught my ear or looked like it had a good crowd going.
For me its about one thing enjoyment and our tent had a massive door that if you weren't enjoying what we did you were free to use. Luckily for us though the vast majority of the people I had the good fortune to meet on Saturday night used it to enter and then didn't use it again until right at the end when we all had to leave. At the end of the day I didn't see anybody being made to stay in our tent.

dont kno bout that big door i kinda liked the funky little flap at the side as an exit

Correct me if im wrong but everyone on this thread, bar 1 or 2, got in for FREE so how can they moan about who they didnt get to see FOR FREE!!!!!

When you spend £50 on drink, £40 on petrol and £10 to park a mile from the site I think you have a right to an opinion, just coz it was free doesn't mean its ok that everyone else who did pay didn't get what they paid for. Maybe everyone who paid hasn't been on here voicing their opinion coz they are now too skint to afford the internet or can't be arsed to waste anymore time discussing this rip off. Would you feel the same if you hadn't played for this event, free or paid?

Plus (and I'm sure they can speak for themselves) the Lost Souls guys put in a lot of time and effort for this event to be completely shafted so the fact they got in for free to an event they were booked to play and got ripped off gives them every right to complain.

Personally for me at a music festival the right music is quite vital otherwise I might go to Wetherspoons for a few and not give a shit, plus we aren't talking about missing one act, there were 30 acts missing from this. I don't think anyone is being unreasonable to complain, free or not free, when they didn't get what they went for.

Zoo8 say they'll return next year despite troubles.

It hasn't been the greatest year for dance festivals so far, what with Wild in the Country and Wax:On Live both being cancelled.

Last weekend's Zoo8 was heavily slated for poor organisation and cancelled acts.

But the directors have vowed to return for Zoo9 saying "Our biggest problem was one of miscalculation over cash-flow. This required us to make the pragmatic decision to cancel a few acts. Thankfully, with some vital assistance from Port Lympne Wildlife Park, we managed to keep the show on the road, with the vast majority of the popular acts appearing"

As seen on Mix Mag website.

Would you feel the same if you hadn't played for this event, free or paid?

The fact i played is irrelevant realy isnt it?
whats in it for me to big up the event that went so wrong?
im not a promoter.............
i didnt get paid...........

i was asked by chew the fat as they knew i was local and play with them a lot and there is no way they will be hosting a tent there next year so why bother even writing on this thread?

Acts not playing was annoying on the Friday, but then most people like myself realised that things werent right behind the scenes BUT instead of moaning and grummbling all weekend made the most of getting their mates together and enjoying a few beers in the sun to what artists did play............i speak for the 50+ people ive spoken to who were down at the event who said that they were a bit dissapoitned but still had a realy good time..

Just coz it was free doesn't mean its ok that everyone else who did pay didn't get what they paid for

Why aint they on here complaining in their masses? majority of comments seem positive do they not.

Ive seen the "Anti Z00" facebook groups but ive also seen the "For Zoo" group here........

in all fairness the numbers pale into insignificance when you think that there were 12,000 people on site Saturday alone dont you think?

For a lot of people they made the most of it and had a blast instead of reading the riot act and slating what was undoubtedly a badly organised event.

No ones saying that it was right what happend, but my main point is that alot of people did have a good weekend instead of standing around chin stroking at what could have been a much better event had things gone to plan........

I think the national newspapers and french it would appear have spoken for them, most of the positive comments are from people who played at the event and it went well for them which is great, you have bitten there when what I was saying is, if you were a punter who didn't get what they went for would you feel the same. I personally had no issue with you speaking your opinion as thats what these forums are for afterall but when you directly say to us the people who have had a complaint that we are being bitchy and have nothing to complain about because we didn't pay then I have to question why you have such a problem with people being negative about the event as when there were major problems that is our right.

I certainly made the most of the event under the circumstances and just because I like minimal doesn't mean I'm a stuck up chin stroker. I find it very disappointing that just because people have expressed a view different to yours for very good reason that you all have to accuse us of being up our own arse chin strokers, I haven't at one point criticised you or the FNUK tent for having a good time at this event so why should you all get shitty and say we only have a complaint coz we are chin strokers? Where the fuck has that come from? The facts are there and I find it interesting that you should call us that, hypocritical infact, as you all go on about bitching and "its all music why can't we all just have fun" and at the first opportunity use the minimal versus funky house/breaks/electro card.

If you read through all of my comments not once did i make refernce to Minimal so how can you say that im taking the first oppourtunity to slate it? why would i slate it some of my favourite djs are minimal and techno Djs so im not realy sure where youve got that from if you could highlight that ill gladly justify it?

Second point.......

If you read my comment

I stated that people were making the most of a bad situation at the event and not standing around "chinstroking" which is a valid point..... there was no personal reference to you and your views about music or what you got up down at the event so whats the problem?

I'm not sure who you were calling chin strokers then and who you were directing the "why are you all complaining when you didn't even pay" remark at but it appeared you were supporting the Millska comments who did make direct digs at the music we like. This whole thread seems full of the DJ's that played the event or their friends who it went well for saying that although they acknowledge there were problems, as they had a good time noone else is allowed to say differently and anyone who does is a chin stroker. I have no problem with you Small Fry at all, I'm sure you know that, but you seem to want everyone to say positive things about this and nothing negative and thinking that anyone who was annoyed with this shambles is a chin stroker or if they didn't pay should not voice their opinion, that I thought was unfair of you.

I'm sure you, like me, have got far better things to be doing that arguing about the right and wrongs of this festival which neither of us personally organised, you had a good time, as did FNUK which is great and others didn't, I think we should just leave it at that coz this kind of bullshit which I've spent way too many hours of the one life I get involved in on this website, just isn't worth discussing and I think with Chew the Fat not even putting on an arena next year, irrelevant.
