Fucking excellent. I'm thinking of buying a 2TB mirrored NAS server for all my digital music, but it will cost about a grand.

Where did you buy yours from?

Raid 6 it (5 + 1) whatever you wana call it. Or even if your paranoid about data you could even add a cross site virtual raid mirror.

a grands quite good for a nas dependin whos it by an what support they offer? th one just got at work is 40tb an came in at 30k, then again before it ever goes wrong it calls home an orders another drive(s) sent to it to be changed before anyone knows its begining to go. which was mildly confusing when a hard drive turned up without warning one day.

Im still likeing the idea of just putting everything to dvd knowing il never actually look back beyond 1 or maybe 2 discs worth anyway. Out of curiosity where do you use any pics or vids beyond a say 16gb worth back? as iv never managed to find a reason to justify a nas myself. however a clustered 3d/sequencer farm is a very different matter :)

Blimey - why don't they go the whole hog and fill the machine with nano-robot engineers who'll fix it too?

if only they could, be a bit more conceivable to make a neural synthetic data storage system and give it a load of white blood cells i think tho.

Raid 6 it
no need for speed to be honest...

i take roughly 5gb of photos a week- have almost kept all of them since i started (a year ago)... if i start shooting raw then that'll shoot upto 15gb+ per week i guess. i will start purging old stuff eventually but you never know when you'll need an original (i.e. get approached for sale of an old photo you have on flickR etc...

Where did you buy yours from?
i got the enclosure from pcw (reduced from £400 to £100) + the drives from insight (£90 each i believe)

its not using a san as far as im aware. its all remote storage through a novel based network. then again i could just not be understanding this data storage principal as well as i thought. if you can think of anyway of me asking one of the propper techies without sounding clueless i will, lol.

Yeah, I think I'd be overly paranoid if I did that. Though, with the amount of money I spend on digital music, it's probably a wise idea. I just need to figure out how much space wastage there is with that configuration.
