The Shangri Lounge is a very new concept to the area. It is Costa Rica's only true Lounge, with 12 different Shisha flavours, all kinds of licor and a broad winelist from all over the worldfine hand-rolled cigars are also available. The experience starts as one walks in. Located in an unsuspecting comercial building across the street from one of Costa Ricas most beautiful and ambitious residential / commercial projects - www.tamarindoheights.com
There is a small door guarded by pre-columbine indigenous statues as well as 2 security staff in black. there is red light radiating throughout, and the party inside is basically undetected from outside, thanks to excelent sound insulation.
as soon as one enters, fabulous decor cathes the eye - a mix of modern with ethnic asian. Leather couches, padded walls (tuck and roll), lots of mirrors, funky ergonomic lounge furniture. This is blended with an ethnic flavour, mainly chinese and tibetan. there are three ambiances.
The main room - almost all white, with a large area for the vj projections...
this is where the bar is. The decor is sofisticated and modern, yet very warm and intimate. there are 4 high tech satellite speakers mounted above the corners of the room. there are also 2 self-amplified subwoofers. Music comes from two digital cd turntables in addition to a computer on anabolycs, used to mix music and video in realtime - all interconnected by a top-of-the-line mixer and effects board.
a red hallway serves as a go-between with a red persian rug and red walls, and red lights, there is the entrance to the WC to the right and straight ahead lies the leather room.
The leather room is a smaller, very cozy, and significantly darker ambiance. Beautiful designer leather couches and hardwood tables adorn this room. The colours are dark chocolate with a hint of steely blue. One of the walls is fully padded with large studs, its covered in white ultra-suede, and is bathed with a water light, looks bad ass! There are 2 speakers and a self amplified subwoofer for this room.
there is a large glass sliding door with the logo on it, which leads to what people seem to like most, the garden.
The Shangri Lounge's garden has beautiful royal palms as well as bamboo, and vines that creep up the walls. candles of all sorts bathe the area with warm light. there is also an ancient indian oil lamp with citronella infused oil burning to keep the mozzies away. Tiki torches also burn this oil throughout. there are statues of buddha and Ganesh as well as drums and other indigenous instruments to decorate. green coloured light highlights the foliage of the palms and bamboo. 4 speakers keep the gorgeous "L" shaped garden in its magical groove. There is a small dancefloor in the middle of the garden for all you disco freaks-
