Eine Stonkingly Gut Nacht!
Cocoon. Clubbing Nirvana and Hallowed Holy Grail for techno lovers. I feel really lucky to be able to say that I made the pilgrimage to Cocoon, absolutely loved it and just about lived to tell the tale!

For those of you who haven’t been, I can’t recommend the club enough. It really is one of the best clubbing experiences you could have. With a sound system that belts out a huge 120,000 watts it’s enough to make your insides explode and crap come out of yours ears but instead you are subjected to the most crystal clear, sharp and beautiful music you will ever hear in your life!! The basslines that come out of the speakers make the floor shake, but despite the sheer power of the sound system you can still talk to your friends and hear each other without screaming your head off.

The DJ booth at Cocoon reminds you of an alien spaceship, the club makes you feel like you are underwater, the mini cocoons make you feel like you are sitting in an embryonic sac with its own sound system and the visuals make people look like mini dinosaurs on pogo sticks. Fuck me, it really is that good!!

The DJs that night were Tobi Neumann and Andre Galluzzi. Tobi played a pretty minimal set, which normally I don’t like but every half an hour he would turn up the pace slightly which got the crowd going and despite my bf, his friends and I randomly shouting ‘we want gabba’ we loved it. The fact that a few other Germans had cottoned on to our Gabba chants and joined in with us just made it even funnier. You often hear people saying how friendly people are in clubs, well, London clubs really don’t compare to Cocoon. The crowd there were totally up for it, really friendly and we met some crazy people who were a lot of fun. There was no pretentiousness, no attitude, just people out to have a great time and enjoy the music.

Andre Galluzzi played a deep tech house set which made me close my eyes, have a huge grin on my face and just totally give it some on the podiums. In the micro room Chris Tietjen was knocking out some quality tunes which we didn’t stumble on until halfway through the night. By then we were feeling a bit more chilled and decided to smoke a big fat cigar which made me go totally loopy. I ended up running around the club like speedy Gonzalez on well, what else…speed!

I have to mention the Cocoon dancers because they totally rocked. They were dressed like kinky demented child catchers from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and were dancing on the bars and the podiums and were all a bit mad but really friendly.

I’m a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get to see the great man himself – Sven Vath (as if you have to ask!) but he’s playing an 8 hour set at The End next month. Bring it on.

Go to Frankfurt, experience Cocoon. Love it and live it. You know you want to.

Rosie x

I'm going green with jealousy as we speak. I hate people who've been to cocoon, LOL.

CG, you've made me even more determined to go now. I wonder if I can do a Berlin/Frankfurt combo holiday?

What a fantastic review Rosie - now I can't FOOKIN wait to get out there on 4th November! Although booking flights to Frankfurt when you're f*cked isn't a good idea cos the airport we're flying to is 200 odd miles away from the place - bl**dy Ryanair!

Have seen Tobi Neumann play All Over My Face before and he was a lot harder than James and Giles - fantastic DJ. Will have to try to check out Andre Galluzzi.

With regard to Sven Vath, having listened to his covermount for Mixmag, I was sooo disappointed I'm not going to go out of my way to catch him play.

But if he's not like his CD why would he submit a dreadful mix to go out FREE to a wide audience?! When you look at the quality of some of the other covermounts that have come out recently I just thought his was the utter pits!

I've also got a set of Sven and Tobi Neumann b2b and someone f*cks up a LOT of mixes in it.... I've seen Tobi and his mixing was faultless, I've not seen Sven....

Matt/Ross - If you are flying with Ryanair into Frankfurt Hahn airport they run a shuttle bus that takes 1 hour 45 mins to get into town and it costs about 12 euros.

I stayed at a hotel called Bristol Hotel which was lush! My bf's friends stayed at a hotel called KaiserHopf which is near the main train station. It's near loads of sex shops but am sure you won't have any problem with that! The hotel was clean and a triple room cost them 60 euros between them per night. Check out hotels on here:

www.hotelclub.com

A taxi to Cocoon from the town centre cost about 20 euros and when you leave they have a huge taxi rank waiting outside the club so you won't have any problems getting back.

You can contact their paying guest list: reservierung@cocoonclub.net

Amy I did take a few pics but they are so dark it really doesn't do the club any justice. Tried to load them on last night but had loads of problems.

We've got free guestlist thankfully (maybe even VIP) - this whole trip is on a budget, our flights only cost us £23! Think we're also only going to book one hotel room between three as merely a place to dump bags! Who needs sleep eh!?

Rosie - you little Angel!

I have loads of Sven mixes and although sometimes his beat mixing was a bit hit & miss I agree with the point that to see him live is what he is about. Listening to a Studio Session CD is not the same as seeing someone playing a live set for 7 hours.

The guy is an absolute monster and is really larger than life when he is behind the decks. Seeing as he is famous for taking a pill an hour whilst he DJ's it would probably explain some of his 'mistakes'.
