Ben Stevens & Rodi Style interview ahead of the Rave On Lauch Party
Ahead of their debut of Chaos Theory @ the Rave On Launch Party in Leeds Ben Stevens and Rodi Style interview each other:

Rodi Style speaks to Ben Stevens:

I’ve been hearing a lot of loud noises coming from the studio lately, no doubt you’ve been hard at work on some new productions, what’s on the Stevens’ release schedule?
It has been a fantastic year for me music wise, I have been spending 4 days a week in the studio at home working on original tracks, remixes and engineering music for other people. Having the time during the week to work full time on music has been great for me and I've been able to fill up the Fireball release schedule at the same time!

Some of the tracks I've got coming in the next few months are:
Ben Stevens - Hold It
Ben Stevens - Red Mist
Ben Stevens - Deep Underground
Kyle Donegan & Manik - The Cube (Ben Stevens Remix)

We all hear that Rave On is going to be dead good and a special night, do you have anything special in mind for the event?

You have certainly been hearing the truth then, the launch party is all set to be a fantastic event as we are trying to inject some of the fun antics back into the hard dance scene. I remember going to events like Sundissential and being amazed at some of the weird and wonderful things people would be dressed up as and what they would be doing! Each night was always different and the music policy was also really varied, this is the ethos of the night so I can't wait to get down to My House and Rave On!

As for anything special it will be great to perform our Chaos Theory set up in Leeds for the first time and get to show the northern crowd what its all about. Bring on the 30th October now!

What are two VST’s that you cannot live without?
I get asked this question quite a lot and without doubt it would be Lenar Digital's Sylenth and Rob Papen's Predator synths. Both of the vst's are perfect for making hard dance with and they both sound very clean and powerful. If you enjoy music production and haven't had a listen to these synths then download the demos of them and give them a blast!

What’s your take on the digital age and the ever growing shift towards using midi controllers & laptops? Can you see yourself completely switching over to that route in the future?
I think its a great thing to be honest, we have to embrace all technology that comes to us, as DJ's we should always be trying new things to entertain the people that we play music to. At the moment I can't see myself switching over to a laptop and midi controller completely as I still worry about relying on the computer too much, I do really love the Traktor timecode software though and that might even get me back using my decks again!

In the magical kingdom of Ben Stevens, what sort of creatures would inhabit the lands, would there be an evil warlord? What name would this evil empire be? And in the face of such grave danger, who is the hero that will rescue everyone from impending doom?
In the mystical magical land that I live there are two cats that fight with each other all the time, the black cat is the evil warlord and she is called Tullulus Maximus. The hero that will rescue everyone in the end though will be the camouflaged Frodzilla!

Ben Stevens speaks to Rodi Style:

It has been a great year for hard dance, which gigs have been your favourites?

I think my favorite so far has to be the week I spent in Ibiza for the Ibiza bootcamp. I clocked in 15.5 hours of DJ’ing over 5 days, met some amazing people and got to spend some relaxing time with people who support my music which was really nice. The 4.5 hour closing set I did on the last night will definitely stay in my mind for a long time to come! It was a rare treat for me!

Over the past year you have been working hard on your radio show 'Sushi Fresh Beats' can you let us know what goes into the show each month.
Sushi Fresh Beats is a chance for me to showcase some of the best music in our scene and it also allows me to be a bit silly with friends. There’s monthly segments like, 30 seconds of gibberish and a very random 2 minute conversation with my best m8 Chris Wan in Canada. Previous topics have included orgasmic births, a tour around Chris’ crib and why the care bear’s stare is the ultimate superpower. I’ve had the pleasure of having guests such as yourself, Paul Maddox, Defective Audio, Nik Denton and a few others on the show with upcoming guests Jimmy Dean, Ilogik, Amber D and Cally Gage. For more information and to download the shows please visit sushifreshbeats.com

We all know you mainly for your hard dance productions, can you let us know what tracks and other styles of music you have been working on?
Well, with your good self, we have been working on techno under my new alias Kyfu and yours Hotwire. It’s tons of fun and hopefully you’ll see us around in the future! I also produce house under “Benjamin Leung” and pop & random music as “Sound Language”.

What are your plans for the coming year?

Definitely try to continue to push myself technologically in my DJ sets adding more gear and geeky stuff. I’m running a new setup at select gigs I like to call “re:creation” in conjunction with Traktor Pro. It allows me to really mess around with music and be creative so it’s loads of fun. It’s really put in that extra spark into DJ’ing for me. A long with that I’ll be continuing the CD singles on my Kung Fu label and hopefully furthering my other aliases as well!

What are you looking forward to most at Rave On and what animal will you be dressing up as?

I hear there’s a 2am rave off (like a dance off) in our animal costumes. I’ve been challenged by yourself to some sort of javelin style bout, gotta say, hurling objects with deadly accuracy is my specialty so I’ll be bringing my A game. Oh and definitely a turtle. Small and weak looking but deadly when I come in contact with ooze.
