What is Carbon Recordings?

Carbon recordings
In October 2007 Carbon Recordings was established by Dale Fairbairn (AKA Butcher Boy). On the back of successful year of writing, recording and releasing 14 hard dance tracks with Omega 3 and solo productions. Dale saw the opportunity to set up a boutique hard trance label. Carbon recordings will annually release a small number of selected tracks on vinyl and digital from the artists who are at the top of their game. Filtering out the shit and bringing you only the choicest cuts of dance floor destruction. Our thinking is not to be the biggest label – just the best! Dale says “Over time I want to win the confidence of the top DJs so they will have our releases at the front of their play lists”.

First Release Out 19th November:

2. Farkin old Skool

Justin Bourne Review
“It's always good news for our scene when a new label arrives. This time we have Carbon Recordings based in one of my favourite countries New Zealand. Along with Tripoli's resurrection this is the label I'm most excited about this year. The first two tracks from Omega 3 have featured heavily in my sets, especially the massive Fishy Situations which is a contender for my track of the year. The flipside Farkin’ Oldskool is for the harder heads who aren’t into the uplifting Trancier riffs. If you’re looking for top quality Hard Dance then look no further. Respect!"

Second Release Out 21st December:
Omega 3
1. Smoke Screen
2. Hammered Time
listen here

NZ-based trio Omega 3 return with a smart remix of an old anthem, after the previous hit “Fishy Situations” on Carbon. "Hammered time" further proves why Omega 3 are being hailed as the new kings of hard trance, giving this old favourite a complete workover Omega-style. A true hard-trancer, it's packed to the gunnels with big room reverb, clever effects, and a fierce bassline, all building to an epic rework of the breakdown. "Hammered Time" is set to become a "must have" in any serious DJs bin. On the flip, the feel-good belter "Smoke Screen" showcases Omega 3's distinctive combination of heavy, deep bass-lines and memorable uplifting riffs. A super cool vox sample adds to a well crafted track that teases you along before smashing you in the face with another monstrous breakout that makes you want to "put your drink down... and get on the dancefloor!".

Simon Eve review
We've been missing a good old fashioned rave up on these pages for a while. It's either gone tech, trancey, or quite simply gash; few of the new breed of producers have the quality to match the legendary hard NRG producers from a few years back. Fortunately the old seadog Captain Tinrib returns here with Kiwi lads Scuba Steve and Butcher Boy under their collective Omega 3 guise for an uncompromising, unstoppable and essential release. 'Smoke Screen' raises the roof with energetic, staccato riffs and uplifting key changes, while 'Hammered Time' ramps up energy levels for an acid and hoover fuelled romp with more than a passing nod to the Captain's classic remix of 'Hoover Time'. Rating: 5/5 (Simon Eve - DJ Magazine 456 Jan 08)

Third Release Out February:
Omega 3
1. Manta 3
2. Squeeze
Listen here

A few old school clubbers will remember the Tinrib classic Manta and early remixes, and wonder what's left to do to this old stormer. Well, Omega 3 are on fire at the moment, and have pulled out all the stops to create the extremely juicy Manta 3 for the new generation of punters. Utilizing a few key elements of the old track, funky bass-line, howling diva vocal stab, and Tinrib's trademark acid howling thru the middle of it, Omega 3 once again give this tune the big room treatment with layered, reverbed synths, and their tech-sounding percussion loops. Some tunes don't fall into a simple genre categorization, but slot happily in-between a few good ones. Funk, trance, tech... Manta 3 has it all, and does it with style. Check it out.

JP & Jukesy review

One of JP & Jukesy’s favourite trio of 2007 mark there territory with a cracking 3rd release. Both tracks typical Omega 3 which is great uplifting hardhouse and our favourite side from this release is the powerful Manta 3, it picks you up in one place, takes you on a ride and leaves you wanting more. Great things expected from these guys in 2008!

Fourth Release Out May:
Give it to me
1. Iridium - Original
2. Defective Audio - Remix

At Carbon we believe in quality over quantity, and this track is definitely quality. A clear hard trancer, "Give It To Me" has one of the best breakdowns all year, with lush, full strings leading into a very catchy, climbing trance lead that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Iridium has produced a track packed with pure emotion and driving energy, and we expect it will rip any club apart.

The flip side is remixed by the legendary Defective Audio. What can you say about the man that hasn't already been said. Dom's remix of "Give It To Me" is, as always, a touch of class. Harder and grittier than the original, it will suit those of you who like it upfront and tough...

Light of the Darkness
1. JP & jukesy vs Velos - Original
2. Ben Townsend - Matt's Song
Listen Here

JP & Jukesy vs Velos -Light of the darkness
The new track from JP & Jukesy vs Velos, has instant appeal. The track builds strongly with quirky fx and percussive sounding stabs, introducing the main lead sound teasingly before breaking to a distinctive spoken vocal. Thankfully, unlike a lot of breakdowns, you aren't left awkwardly standing on the floor feeling the need to make chit chat to the random next to you. From here it lifts out to a very catchy main riff with a cimbing bassline that can't help but bring a smile to your face. "Light of the darkness" sits nicely between hard house and hard trance. It's a track that grooves along effortlessly, and you can easily get lost in it. Stick this track in the middle of your set and watch the punters lose it.

Ben Townsend - Matts Song
It's not easy to make a track that has a classic quality while sounding fresh, but that's exactly what Ben Townsend has done with Matt's Song. Ben's tribute to a good friend who was badly injured in a crash boasts a kick-ass groove, bubbly bass-line and tight arrangement. After pulling back to an uber-cool breakbeat-fueled climb, the tune hits out with the highly charged main riff. A hypnotic and undeniably catchy melody ensures Matt's Song has all the hallmarks of a kil
