The Stanton Session Volume 2
Stanton Warriors are back as well, turn this up.”, Pete Tong.

I once read that the days of the commercial mix albums were dead. I ponder this at the time, as it was some years ago, and had to agree. When you consider that decks, and digital variants, outstrip guitars now in sales, and have done for some time, you won’t struggle to find a mix for download on the internet or on CD from one of your mates, and even pod-casts now – until I considered the impact of the defining DJ.

Now to me a defining DJ is someone who has a strong arm in the production world, something I have yet to tackle. From this heavy production influence comes something defining, an almost signature sound – something instantly recognisable. Adam Freeland Evil Nine; Plump Djs, and more recently Madox fall into this category.

So add to this list the illustrious Stanton Warriors with the follow up the Stanton Sessions V1, Stanton Sessions V2.

Don’t be put off by the title I assure you more imagination went into its production than the title. Anyway, this is not the modern art world and the title is not everything, and nothing.

This album is 16 tracks long and boasts 8 original Stanton’s productions including the massive Pop Ya Cork, Still Here (grab your lover) and Hope Time – nine if you count the intro.

It kicks off with a little bit o Tong telling us the joyous news “Stanton Warriors are back” and I wasn’t even aware they went away. Welcome back guys. Anyway, quick as look at ya, they are straight into the melee with “pop ya cork” (and shake up the dice). Anyone who doesn’t like this tune obviously needs to get there ears cleaned out. The next few tracks are all Stanton productions and line the foundations of the mix with phat baselines over sweet beats in a truly bouncy style. Come on, you know what I mean… Makes you feel kind of warm in your tummy.

The one thing that springs to my mind, when I think of the Stanton Warriors sounds, is sexy; you want to grab your girlie, hold then close and shake your thang.

This brings us nicely in to the mid section where we see the remix of metro area. They are ambassadors of cool house, and this remix does wonders to a very sweet house track (close your eyes smell the dry ice and feel the darkness all around).

We bounce further on with “Geht’s Noch (Mogwai mix)” which samples MIA, check the album as she is wicked, and this is one of my favourite tracks. I’ve had a mix of this in my digi-box for a number of months. Post MIA, we rock to LCD Soundsystem’s Disco Infiltrator and then some, coming to a fine Stanton produced finish.

For me, the mixing of rhymes and breaks is a fusion made in heaven and the Stanton’s have succeeded so well in celebrating my love.

This is not a mix album as such. It is a showcase album for the Stanton Warriors presented in a manner we can all relate to, the dance floor scenario.

Stanton Sessions 1 is still in the front of my collection and I think this will join it.

Couldn't agree more, The Stantons have a sound that is familiar and unique at the same time. There is no mistaking one of their tunes/ sets etc and I always find myself wishing I had produced at least one of their booties or productions in any particular set.
If the media think the mix album is dead, let them, meanwhile we will lap this up like the music necraphiles that we are!!

Shamefully enough I haven't heard this yet, I should imagine I have practically all the tunes included though & will be picking up a copy.

Stantons, for me, consistantly produce quality tunes that I just can't seem to get enough of & they (along with Rennie Pilgrim) were what inspired me to start playing.
I've had the extreme pleasure of meeting Dom, who is a real gent & seemed suprisingly down to earth.

They are certainly on form this yr & I'll be catching them again as soon as the oppurtunity arises.

Quite simply, Stantons=Quality.

Thanx for heartfelt review fleabag x

Foxy - get this ASAP, it truly is a cracker - as you'd probably guessed from all the positive feedback!
I really reckon that the Stanton's have just the right combination of get you moving tunes & classy mixing... just want a punter wants to hear... both on the dancefloor & on a mix CD.
Mr T, I must be suffering from necrophilia too then! ;-)
