Dear Dave - Tattoo
Dear Dave,

Tomorrow's my birthday and to mark the occasion I'm thinking of finally getting my first tattoo. I've spent years trying psyching myself to getting one and figuring out what I want to get, and now I need to find somewhere reputable to get it done.

Can you recommend a good salon to go to? I'm going to be in London to get it and don't mind how much it costs so paying over the odds isn't a problem as long as it's done well.

Also, I plan to go to Ibiza in months time - will it be healed fully and, do you know of any other tips to help it heal as being Irish I have stupidly sensitive skin?

Captain-Cunt, you need to read the rules, but your info sounded quite good so:

Dear MinidiggerBEX,

I wouldnt recommend getting a tattoo in a salon, try a parlour my lovely. It will heal within 3 weks max, as long as you keep it covered initialy with cling film , make sure you dont pick the scab, as my pic of Freddie Mercury now look slike Antartica post global warming. E45 I find is super dooper for healing and keeps it fresh and moist. Good luck with the ink devil me dear, try not too get anything that will be dated in a few months, ie. devils, winnie the poh, tribal tatts or like me, pics of dead rockers.

Kind Regards,

Dave

However, to add to the bit in bold, can I please recommend Preparation H? I'm not kidding either. I've been told by LOTS of people (including my sister who had a massive tattoo done) that it's the best thing by a mile.

It's also apparently the best thing for bags under the eyes.

NB it's made of sharks.

Isn't that meant for your bum grapes?

Shit - that'll teach me not to read the question.

I think it depends, as much on proficiency of the tattooist, as to what style you're after. Someone who's an expert in tribal might make a shit job of a cartoon character (to pick two random examples).

What are you getting? If it's a similar design to anything that anyone on here knows about, then we might be able to help.

That's surprisingly not the worst thing I've ever heard.

How about looking for a Celtic symbol (or whatever tribe you belong to) and try and merge the two together.

On your wrist? What about your job? Won't that look bad?

Well I wanted a tattoo that means something to me, and DJing/Promoting/Music has always been important and is a major part of my life right now. Years ago when I just played the piano I was considering music notes or a treble clef but that is so common so I'm glad I waited.

Yeah now that's a good idea- something I didn't think off!

It's better than having it just above your ass. The tattooist might have had a shitty day and flipped the headphones to make them look like horns. Would have made 'grabbing the bull by the horns' a little more interesting anyway.

Just make sure you get one that you really, REALLY, like. My first tattoo I'm getting covered over in the next few weeks with a new one, luckily it looks smaller now as I've got bigger over the years, I'm not so over keen on it anymore.

The other thing is make sure you get some tattoo goo, this is the best shit on the market.

tattoogoo.com

And DON'T pick it.

That is something thats crossed my mind, but I was thinking getting it on my wrist as I use my hands to do the actual DJing.

Plus, not sure where else I would want it. I guess when I leave Uni and the time comes to get a "proper job" shirt's/watches/jewelry will have to cover it...

See that's the thing. If I ever got a tattoo I'd want it on my forearms. Not sure why, just something about that part gels with me. Problem is, it's a little bit too noticeable.
