Oh, just think about it. Go on.

Because a plane has wings and can glide down to earth, the best place to land in this situation is the sea because your descent won't be very controlled. Also if everyone bails out then the destruction caused by the plane coming down with no one steering could be worse than the plane crashing an everyone dieing on it.

I'd love to see 500 people try to parachute out of six doors in the time it takes the plane to freefall to earth.

most airliner crashes are landing or taking off so parachutes no good, but as a lot of airports are near water, the lifejackets are more practical. and if a plane has a catastrophic failure at high altitude the loss of cabin pressure would probably kill everyone anyway...

awesome idea for a game show. And to make it even more difficult you could have canon's firing at them, choose a spot where millions of geese are migrating, wind machines, and the chosen landing site consisting of volcanic properties (i.e lava) and a few spikes thrown it. Oh and giant man eating ants.
