What is Dex In The City?

DEX IN THE CITY Renowned Godskitchen resident, DJ Paul Thomas’ initial concept behind Dex In The City was to push musical boundaries with new sounds, breathing new life back into the Birmingham club scene. This has expanded beyond the Birmingham city limits to an international stage. Dex music highlights a wide range of house music from progressive to acid house and beyond including breaks, techno and anything groundbreaking and fresh. Music lovers everywhere have been drawn to Dex for its unique music and welcoming atmosphere.

The Dex concept is based on the love for music and is reflected in the DJs and crowd. Paul’s concept mixes well known DJs with fresh local talent spinning anything but the obvious Birmingham sound. Without dress codes and moodiness, Dex In The City is clubbing at it’s best. Paul Thomas first introduced his concept party Dex In The City in May 2003 along side Bedrock’s own Steve Gerrard. Regular Dex parties were first thrown at Hidden nightclub in Birmingham. Within the first few weeks, artists such as James Zabiela and Krafty Kuts were brought in making clubs and clubbers alike stand up and take notice of the Dex in the City parties.

After moving to Godskitchen’s flagship venue, Air, the party’s status was firmly established in the Birmingham scene during the Dex in the City vs. Fandango -- Nic Fanciulli’s clubbing brand. Dex left Godskitchen in December 2005 after several successful tours of the UK and Poland. After a brief hiatus, the much-anticipated return of Dex In The City launched in July 2006 and the Dex concept is growing. Ad Jones, Myke Smith & Steve Thornton have joined the Dex team and it is in the works to have monthly Dex in the City parties in Liverpool and Leicester as well as several different venues in Birmingham.
