Joe Moriarty – ‘Glitch’, ‘Insulation’ & ‘Resonance’ [Tech House, Electro & House Mixes]
Hello all

After a longer break from sending out my regular promo mixes than I would have liked, I decided to put together 3 separate mixes to make up for the delay. Also, partly due to the accumulation of excellent new music and the different, diverse avenues I wanted to take the mixes through.

Firstly, ‘Glitch’ is a tech house affair. Beginning, as the title suggests, glitchy, dark and squelchy sounding; then ending up a snarling techno beast. Along the way Josh Wink’s Vocal Interpretation of Alexander Kowalski’s ‘All I Got To Know’ and recently re-rubbed ‘The Freaks Come Out’ provide house-orientated highlights; whilst 2000 And One’s snippet of ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ lain over Mark Henning’s deep mix of Tigerskin’s ‘Blasted Bitch’ contrasts to given a bitter-sweet feel. The rasping synths of ‘Fashionista’ and organic percussion of Ahmet Sisman’s amazing new EP give way to recent remix offerings from Messrs Ritch and Voorn, before heading headlong into driving techno from the Sleaze Recording guys. I used a lot of snippets of tracks and various layers to create as full and twisted a sound as possible

With ‘Glitch’ finishing on an electro-tinged note, this leads nicely into the second mix – ‘Insulation’ – which is my personal take on some of the better electro out there. Beginning on a no-nonsense note, and setting a bit of a tone for the rest of the mix, is MSTRKRFT’s ‘Street Justice’. The beats from Roman Salzger’s Lollipop Machine were used to create a sound bed for the first 5 tracks in the mix, keeping things energetic and raw sounding. Fourth track in is one of my all time favourite tracks – Anthony Rother’s ‘Red Light District’ – a low-slung, deep, dark electro beast with raw drums and 303 licks. Following that is my personal favourite offering from Tiga’s new album, ‘Mind Dimension 2’ – a fucked-up, techy little track which twists and turns constantly. Blackstrobe’s remix of ‘Ghosttrack’ then barges in, followed by punchy productions from MSTRKRFT. Elite Force’s ‘Used & Abused’ then brings the energy level up, followed closely by MSTRKRFT again (please excuse me, but I absolutely love the tracks these guys have carved out a nice little place for themselves with). Breaking briefly with a cheeky bit of The Beastie Boys, ‘Insulation’ ends on a techno note with Vitalic and Modeselektor. On the whole the tracks may not ultra-exclusive, but I love them and ‘Insulation’ should provide a bit of fun.

Thirdly, by way of a kind of bonus mix and a vehicle for a lot of tracks which wouldn’t have worked in ‘Glitch’, ‘Resonance’ is a summery housey mix. With the extended delay in any sort of sunshine or summer weather making an appearance, I thought it would be a good idea to throw some summery tracks together and hope for the best – a sort of mini offering to the Sun Gods :) I wanted the mix to have a generally organic and percussive feel, as well as making the listener being unable to keep still to it. Starting with a piano-themed double track intro, the first of 2 tracks from Dop – a new producer I know I’m going to really look forward to their new releases. The deep and bassy new track from Agnes, ‘Snowhere’, leads into some Latin inspired tracks from Stimming and Luciano’s remix of Joe Arroyo’s ‘La Tortuga’ (which rightly-so created big waves at this year’s WMC). Disco-tinged offerings from Nick Curly and Anonym lead nicely into the second track from Dop, D’Julz’s edit of ‘Walk The Line’, overlain with fresh beats from DJ Sneak’s classic ‘Que Pasa’. Fresh mix of Jay Haze’s ‘I Can’t Forget’ provides a bass and synth-heavy break before heading straight back into the percussion mania of Saeed Younan ‘Kumbalha’ and Tom De Neef’s Tribal rub of ATFC’s classic ‘Sleep Talk’. Ending with the cheeky ‘Sneak’ from Mark Broom and classic ‘Last Rhythm’, ‘Resonance’ should hopefully call some serious sunshine our way!

Below are individual track lists and details of the mixes: ‘Thump’ & 'Diffusion’. If you download either, or indeed both, of the mixes I would be extremely grateful for any feedback you may have - whether it be good, bad or indifferent.

Thanks,

Joe
