Its this fanatical eclecticism and tight family of like minded producers that makes UNION a distinctly nu school concept that stands out for its vibrantly varied fusion of styles and viewpoints.

And so it is with this mix which was recorded live at Ed Bangers 7th Birthday in London. The mix flows from the gorgeous romantic sentiments of numbers like Screw Loose and to the cinematic drama of Rotundus Maximus and the punishing Aphex Twin inspired hip hop destruction of West coast Rocks and Android Porn. ‘The joy of this sound is that it’s about making people feel excited and emotional at the same time. You hear these tracks in a club, and your whole body responds. It can be challenging Autchere inspired futurism one minute and then we’ll go for the jugular and drop the harder fucked up tracks and at that point your whole head is going to come clean off!”

“On our last tour there was a whole new generation of kids who were there because they loved big dancey beats but they went crazy when we challenged them with the glitched up stuff! It was a real inspiration to keep pushing the envelope. If there’s anything were trying to say its that clever leftfield dance music can also and destroy the peak time dancefloor.”

With this simple manifesto UNION forge ahead on a path of destruction slaying every club and festival in their wake and building a phenomenally huge worldwide fanbase. Their currently on tour in the US (supporting everyone from Will.i.am to Boyz Noise) and returning to Europe to rock the festivals. With their first EP out in the spring the future’s looking incredibly exciting for these guys and their 25th century sound!

This mix was recorded live for Don’t at Ed Bangers 7th Birthday at the Coronet in London.

UNION’s first EP – ‘25th Century Manifesto’ is out in the spring and is co produced by drum and bass’s hottest ticket and Hospital Records newest superstar MRSA.

Surely the genre is a joke. Its more of a description?

yeah suppose but what type of music is it do you reckon? i really like it but its not dubstep. sounds like dubstep and hip hop with a bit of justice thrown in. i dunno who cares if its good i guess!

To me it sounds more like techno and electronica based stuff (recognise the tune four from the end is clark from warp records) but your right who cares !!! just exciting to see people doing new stuff and people actually liking it. x

I'd put it in my breaks section along with James Lavelle etc. Definitely wouldn't put it in with the Dubstep. To me its glitchy breaks, which could mean an awful lot of different music but I don't really see the point in coming up with a name for every tiny variation in dance music....

OK so I have 6 different sub genre folders in my fidget section on my hard drive. But that's just so I can find the tunes that I want. I wouldn't do a mix from one of those folders and declare that I've created a new genre!

This is an absolutely superb mix. great tunes, well put together, I like the rambling almost direction-less progression of it.

The Crunk mix of chainsaw by 16 bit is the highlight for me, wicked tune.

Good work DSI. More original work like this please!

Hmmm. May have to give this a whirl in a bit. I'm intrigued by the assortment of reactions. I like a bit of controversy...

Wasnt sure about this at first but had a few listens and im really liking it!

Its says UNION’s first EP – ‘25th Century Manifesto’ is out in the spring and is co produced by drum and bass’s hottest ticket and Hospital Records newest superstar MRSA.

MRSA is also Mat Zo the trance producer so that could be interesting..

Listening to this makes me think we need a healthy cull at the top of the dj tree.

Though i respect them ALOT the old dj and stale styles have to make way for young blood and new ideas!

Trust fabric to pick up on these guys years ago - their bookings are so ahead of everything!

Congrats DSI this might be the most interesting mix you've ever put up! :-)

I only recognise Growls Garden by Clarke (rephlex/warp records guy) and think that crazy encore tune is by Jackmaster.

Glitch by Autechre comes in for a few bars around half hour point.

Sorry i dont know anymore - theyre ain't gonna be a beatport section for this type of stuff so its difficult :)

Agree with that. Fabric is the only dance mecca we have left and if they get behind something its probs gonna blow!
