my mate told me a story about him from a festival in oz a while back.

apparently carl cox was in the booth stuffing his face from the BBQ and a pissed up felix da housecat decided to grab the mic and start MCing over Josh Wink - something along the lines of "carl cox eating motherfucking corn on the cob"

josh wink managed to sample it and fuck about with it so the crowd had to listen to it for the rest of his set!

When i was younger i had one of these:

Couple of old secondhand hifi turntables with what must've been a +/- 2% adjustment on them - happy days!

i had that with some 1200 copies, i think they are still in my mum and dads loft along with a yamaha drum machine!

sorry to go back to the original opic but how are ACTUAL taltented DJs supposed to progress if someone else is producing a CD and palming it off as here own work??

my mate at least does her own mixes on acid trax (and i dont even agree with that I think its a cop out and shows no actual talent what so ever)
let alone someone else mixing it for u!
christ no wonder its hard work these days....

I will go with the personal touch of mixing live and networking...

those that chose this arent DJ's there wanna be DJ's... bring back vinyl, now theres actual talent behind that!

Agreed its more difficult to use Vinyls than CD as you need to know how hard to push the vinyl & tap the platter, however if we all stuck in the old times we'd still be walking around with Tape Walkmans, watching analogue TVs with only 5 channels, renting video tapes & recording with reel 2 reel.

Times change, technology changes and we have to embrace & move with it.

Pfffft, what you chatting about?

Everyone knows CDJs mix themselves. Why else do you think all us lazy ass DJs use them?

I remember when i was on Clubtown.tv (live internet radio) i used to get people asking if i could mix vinyl! I'd have to slap one on to shut them up!

Fools!

lol i see this going off topic again but yeah you do still get the purists who feel that CDJ isnt real DJing. But that really does come down to what you define what 'real DJing' is.

DJ = aka disk jockey. As far as i'm aware a CD is also a 'disk'.

I used vinyl for 5 years before turning CD, I was a 'die hard purist' but i put that down to having never actually tried a CDJ, after however i was quickly converted & my bank balance is now also much healthier.
(I remember some weeks when i used to spend around £100 just on a few records which now can cost me a tenner!)

What is interesting though is how vinyl DJs can pick up the CDJ with ease of use, but CDJ DJs who've never done vinyl can't DJ with vinyl when they try?

F*ck, have we just gone back into that dreaded vinyl vs CD debate?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO please no.

I was a HARDCORE DIEHARD vinyl junkie but as soon as I actually used a cdj and saw how easily I could get my hands on brand new music, I was a convert!

I felt bad for say.... 1 second!!

I was always wondering what the secret to Coxy's airtight mixing was.

Now I know.

Someone should do a test, get a cd mixed by these guys and do one themselves, post them both up and see who prefers what!

But what if everyone preferred the CD done by these guys?

You'd have to hang up your headphones.
