When and why should a dj take on a manager???

Do you have one?
What do they do for you?
What do you pay them?

Or is an agency a better option?

Im with an agency but dj-ing is not my full time job!!

If i was a full time dj i would prob go with a manager.

You generally have to have enough gigs and requests coming in for an agency to come to you. If you don't have UK wide gigs and plenty of experience, basically a selling point and good following, you've got no chance. I know from experience.

Manager/promotions manager, someone actively seeking work for ya, dealing with promoters, cuts out the stress!

To be honest I've been quite lucky with promoters up until this point, never dealt with anyone who has given me grief.

There's time though.....haha

You can et a 'virtual assistant' these days for not much money and they could deal with all sorts of shizzle for ya...

It's like a PA, but you pay a fraction of the price.

You can give them ALL your admin stuff to do - receipts, bookkeeping, arranging meetings, finding names and addresses of promoters/clubs/bars, pretty-much anything.

Yeah got a few people who do that for me which takes some of the heat off,

But i do know one of two who work with an agency but i find it prices them out of smaller gigs due to the fees they charge,

when you're struggling to look after and chase your bookings on your own.

most managers and agents will want to take all of your contacts from you (and then potentially sell their other DJs into those gigs as well as you) so it's not worth doing until you have a good range of contacts that NEED more chasing than you can do yourself; otherwise you will be giving away more than you'll be getting back.

they can potentially open up new areas for you, make you look more professional and make your life easier but whether it works for you really does depend on how marketable you are. if they really have to work hard to get you out then they will quickly move onto other easier to sell DJs.

Ive just been signed to To The Max UK and been asked to work for them too..... I'm going to be getting gigs for all the hard dance djs on the agencies books and in return they will look after me...

Personally i would go with an agency who knows what they are doing, and make sure they do.... look into it properly before you agree to anything!
