Seconded, I'd go so far as to say I enjoy multi genre sets more than single genre sets.

Depends... In general I've found that single genres have the better line-ups (in my opinion). Multi's usually go for a more commercial line up. But the atmosphere & wider selection in multi's makes for a better night. It's also cool when one room unexpectedly turns out to be the best of the night.

Yeah so do i, as it shows the dj has more skill if they can mix a load of genres in one set and do it well.

Also i think it's more beneficial to the promoters if they hold a multi genre event, as they are going to get the support from a lot of different people.

Multi genre so I can stick in the techno room and feel smug an superior to everyone else there.

i like eclectic nights . djs playing anything and everything , deep house , techno , funk , rock, anything goes.

bored of nights of repetitive music and djs playing music that is readily available on the download sites

Multi genre is usually better. 2-3 Rooms of different genres seem to work best for me.

I like multi genre nights if they're all relevant to each other. Rather than having deep house in one room and hardcore in another, for example. It just wouldn't work.

It can be and it can't be. I'll take a night i played for a couple of times for at Hidden when i first started playing out. Hard House djs in room 1 with a big headliner. Trance djs in room 2 with a decent headliner. Me playing house and techno in room 3 for a promotion that's given no money for a headliner so just local djs. Our room is an after thought and the pressure was on us to shift tickets. My crowd however, as much as they'd like to see me play, weren't going to want to spend £15 when the majority of the music has no interest to them. it's alright if you're the main promoter because they got the room 3 promoter in on a ticket selling basis, makes it very hard work for the room 3 promoter

Tbf as we all know I'm a scummy freeparty head at heart, I wanna hear loadsa different shit over the night as long as it's good.

The night I'm going to tomorrow has 9 different arenas in the custard factory playing everything from hardtrance to minimal to dubstep all with no name DJ's. I know it's gonna be banging =D

I usually go to see specific DJ's so if I am in Ministry, once the Box is open I dont really see any of the other rooms, except maybe popping into the babybox for 30 seconds on my way to the toilets.
Somwhere like Fabric, I will usually only change rooms at a specific times to see the particular DJ I wanted to see so the multi room thing is really wasted on me.

If Westfest had a decent underground house / techno room I would have gone as I could have used that room as a creché for my gf whilst I spent a few hours other rooms (I would have taken a fancy dress Kappa tracksuit as a disguise).

Festivals are a good opportunity for me to discover new acts but the rest of the time I go to a club for specfic DJ's and it's rare anyone else can get my attention.

I love Glade festival, this year with thanks to Davenewt and ML I discovered breaks, a genre I had never really paid attention to before, love it now.

So i guess the room you was playing in didn't do that well, as there was no headliner in that room?

I can see how it may of been a problem, as a lot of people will not listen to dj's they do not know, thats why it's always a good idea to have at least one headliner in each room, then people are more than likely to enter the other room, listen to there favourite dj and then also listen to some local or not so well known dj's after, thus getting to know more fresh talent, that they wouldn't of heard if they didn't enter this room.

Gotta agree with the festy comment, i was blown away by some of the bands at the endorse it in dorset festy.

It turned out alright as a good number of people spilled out from the other rooms and with the numbers that we brought along it was a good night both times i played for them. But it was hard work in the build up. Room 1 and 2 had the same crowd, our room was completely different musically. And our crowd generally didn't go to hard house or trance nights so getting them to come to this event was almost impossible.

How about naming some great DJ's/examples of sets/moments where people have really mixed things up and surprised us with variety of choons played?

It's always going to be a hell of a lot harder for not so well known dj's to shine, regardless of how well they can mix, or the tracks they play, although at least you can say you worked your arse off to get the people in, it's a lot better feeling than to have not put any effort in and got to play to an almost empty room.

if nights are multi genre then promoters need to arrange the different djs like a dj set and keep it flowing as i have played and been to so many nights where they have got line up completely wrong resulting in the dance floor energy being killed all the time because dj's being placed in wrong order

If by multi genre you mean having like one room House, one room something like D&B and one room something else completely non-related then no thanks.

If you have a House night you will find the music going through all sub genres of House music and most likely Techno as well these days with all the crossover stuff. Same as Techno nights you will get a massive spectrum of music throughout the night so that's enough for me
