Free Computing Advice For DSI Users From DSI Users

This forum was started in order to give free computing advice to DSI users. Advice is given by other DSI user pro bono in order to try to spread some love to the annoyed and baffled. Anybody can join as long as you adhere to the rules (details below) and respect that somewhere somebody is giving up free time and brain power to try to cure your computing headaches. So please remember to say thank you.

The RULES - Ignoring them will get you banned

1) Keep it relevant
This Speaks for itself really. Stick the point. No meandering waffling stories about how you learned what you are talking about. No talking about what you had for breakfast, even if it is sponsored by Microsoft. No photos of your dog at the keyboard with sunglasses on. This is supposed to be helpful and we would like DSI users to come here and know that we give good advice and tips. Not just another load of shite to sift through in your inbox.

2) NO ads
We’re NOT here to advertise your PC business. We’re here to help others.
“But how do you survive if its all free” I hear you ask. Well in short we make a perfectly good living driving tug-boats, thank you very much. Toot-toot.

3) NO flaming
Do not attack anybody in this forum. If you disagree, then, fine you disagree. Do not bully people into seeing things your way. What works for you may not work for others. If you get stampeded by many who see something the wrong way. Come find a mod and we will discuss it like adults. If its bad enough we’ll report you as a troll ask DSI to ban you all told.

4) NO threadwanking
Pretty much as point 1. If you threadwank you are not welcome here. However much you know about computing. Threads will be closed when the question has been answered.

5) NO bombarding
Do not wade-in with mis-spelt nonsensical stuff that you have to go back and edit 20 times before it makes sense. Everybody wants the pat on the back for fixing it first. Its just human nature. Please take your time and double & treble check everything. Rushing will cause mistakes and may blow up somebody’s shiny new PC.

6) NO guessing or making it up
Please don’t appear and say ‘UM, did you do a spyware scan, I heard that helps” unless you really think it will help. You may just be getting in the way.

7) NO Baffling With Bullshit
No saying well did you prime your flugal-binders because that can cause nasty overflows of data. It won’t wash here. Stick to what you know. If you don’t know. Keep shtum. Nobody will think any less of you.

8) NO Pissing contests
Do not enter into I think I know more than you conversations. Make your point and don’t dredge up tons of info to discredit others opinions. However much you know and however many PC shops you have run. We don’t want to know. Just stick to the facts. We are here to be helpful not ram how much cleverer we are down people throats.

9) NO ‘brevi8in
We are all adults. Not SKOOL M8s. This is not a text messaging service. Use English please. Where you might want to use acronyms please add a quick description in brackets for the first instance. M$ (Microsoft) is not understood by everybody. HDD (hard disk drives) may be taken as a company name.

10) NO unnecessary derogatory comments
No random posts about how shit you think Vista is. Opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one, and not everybody wants to hear it.
Also please avoid using sweeping statements like "This is the best". What works for some may not for others.
