Alternative Electronic - Experimental Electronica *

Maybe in the alternative dance category? - e.g. Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Venetian Snares

There's got to be room for Experimental/Electronica here hasn't there?

(Not sure it would come under the hard dance bracket for me but I'm only just starting to appreciate this genre more so by all means educate me)

Aphex Twin is familiar to most and Venetian Snares/Squarepusher continue to push the boundaries.

Sure it's abit out there, not for all...but it's a growing 'scene' and has a certain influence on tech/electronic house etc...

Plus my bruv, 6.9hz, produces it very well! ;)

OK...

Shal I put it in the "Alternative Dance" category, along with Electro, Breaks and Big-Beat?

Or maybe in the "Alternative Electronic" category with Industrial, Electronic Body Music, Futurepop and Powernoise?

Can't think why this doesn't have its own category already, after all, it's a very well established genre (Aphex Twin must almost be in his 40s by now) and there are plently of nights where it's played. Electronica is probably enough to sum it up too - most people know what that it means experiemental/broken beats type stuff in my experience...

there's gotta be space for experimental generally. especialy experimental electronica. there's so much of it around!!! especialy for the less promoted nights, DSI should provide more publicity.

maybe there's space for an "underground" section, or something like that?

There's a lot more to exp. electronica that isn't mentioned here. a lot of the above fits into other categories like acid and IDM and that, but there's a wealth of stuff like Ryoji Ikeda or Merzbow who I think fall into this category which is utterly vital!

Oh and I don't think you'd ever dance to Ryoji Ikeda or Merzbow, so Alt. Elec. seems the best pic ;)

there is no idm catagory on here. breakcore is a better name for artists such as venetian snares, squarepusher etc anyway, as it's not that experimental anymore now it's an established kind of sound. breakcore describes the sound a bit better.
