Retro - New Jack Swing

it's certainly dated but i'd probably stick it under Urban because it's just a sub genre of Hip Hop or RnB (a mix of the both although it goes alot deeper than that) much like Crunk, indie rap, or Hyphy for example

I LOVE NEW JACK SWING... however, it is an old genre which is alive within certain cultures but is not widely known anymore...

HISTORY
It was created by music industries in coalition with black gospel bands in retaliation to violent west coast hip hop, which was gaining more media attention at the time. As a result, new jack swing would encourporate a new form of black music which would be mainstream, include the cool agression of hip hop aswell as remaining true to it's 80's rare groove roots. It was a huge success which changed the whole pop industry. White and black artists would have top producers such as Teddy Riley (Blackstreet, Michael Jackson DANGEROUS) and major USA films such as 'New Jack City' and 'Above the Rim' revolved around new jack culture. By the mid 90's the shit just disapeared over night and was replaced with general R&B, 2step (USA) and Garage (UK).

...I would consider it retro, and again its opening up to wider audiences however im not sure if many people are aware of it in the UK anymore, probably considered 'old skool R&B' or 'Urban club classics.' However, any retro urban USA users would probably love to see it on DSI.
