i think Brokenbeat needs its own subsection - because it's still very much a dance floor music (ie not just for sitting down and chilling out to - as its BPMs are often 110- 130 )

The main thing is - clubbers who like these styles cant see at a glance brokenbeat events on the calender etc because it is listed within sub sections like chillout or breakbeat which are not really close enough to signpost that type of music.

Admittidly all music crosses over at some point and some styles are appplicaple to several cat's.

I think we need seperate sub cats (which show up when an event is added - ie that we can tick as a sub genre taht will show on our events music styles list) for:
Brokenbeat
Soul (inc. Neo Soul - because Soul isnt just retro)
Jazz (to inc. trad forms of Jazz and also the Nu Jazz styles)
Latin (as a roots music that is uptempo : ie Samba, Bossa etc - these are again dance floor styles that are not sit down or strictly retro etc)

Thanks for your help in revising the cats - i think it will help all choose the events they are looking for.

Cheers

Paul.

yes i dont think Chillout and left field should be in the same category.

and Broken Beat is def NOT chillout music

yes - it def needs its own cat - because Brokenbeat has elements of DnB, Breaks, House, Soul, UKG within it.

If the DnB section can have Liquid and jazzy jungle - then Brokenbeat def needs its own cat because it is of greater variance from its component Genre's than those as foresaid sub DnB genre's.

It would make life simpler for promoter and clubber reading the guides to gigs IMO.

Brokenbeat cat: would have Brokenbeat, Nu Jazz, Future Soul, Brokensoul.

Soul needs it's own cat to inc.: Neo Soul, Street Soul, Nu Soul,

A retro or raregroove cat for: Acid Jazz, Raregroove, Old Skool etc.

I realise these things over lap and its lots of cats - but the goal is so things are most effectively signposted for readers of the DSI site.

Brokenbeat shouldnt be in ambient - its proper hard, crazy and fast!! Like breakbeat but much much faster and just ridiculous! More a sub-genre off Jungle, Powernoise or Hardcore than anything...
