Subject
geek help with NAS please
ello.

i wont bore you with the entire story, so basically, I have an imac and wish to attach two existing hard drives (one IDE and one SATA) to my network so that the existing files as written to these two drives by windows vista are accessible by the mac. I'm obviously not interested in the programs - just the files (mp3s and whatnot). My first inclination is toward NAS, but can they cope with IDE and SATA in one box? I've been told I'll be able to read the files ok, but not write to the drive with the mac, so I'll be copying everything across to the mac first before reformatting each drive. Does this make sense? Are there better ways of doing this? Any ideas what NAS to use?

hummm not sure. Dont work for span.com any more.

But just got my qnap running again after it has been in storage while moving house.

installed 3.4 and seemed fine for a few days

Just installed another 2x 2tb drives and it is upgrading to RAID5 for the next 12 hours and cant seem to get back on the web interface to check things.

Might have a similar problem but dont know. Giving it another look tomorrow after I get back in to the web interface (I hope).

Maybe give dean from span.com an email.

dean@span.com

He might have more info than me at the moment
