My HTC Sensation
Once upon a time it was marvellous. Did everything I wanted. Then came an update for android I believe and it went totally loop the loop, everything crashing settings randomly changing, all sorts.

I did a factory reset and built it up again. Apart from a few little quirks and glitches I'm pretty much there apart from one thing, my email notifications. I used to have a specific notification sound for emails (different from texts), and it would only sound once per received message.

Now it plays a default noise (not the default noise that I set in the settings part of the phone either), and it plays it once every two minutes until I throw the thing at the wall (and read the message). I've been through the settings on the app and on the phone but the options dont appear to be anywhere.

A: I would like to turn the repeat notification thing off. It drives me insane.

B: I would like to be able to pick my own sound for the notification.

Anyone have any ideas? Because this seems like such a simple task, but its completely baffling me. I'd download a new app or something, but seeing as I have had it set up how I liked it before (I like the widgets on my homescreens too) it seems a little pointless to throw money at the problem and get something new.

In Gmail look under settings > {account name} > Labels to notify > Inbox

Set "notify once", and use "ringtone" to select the sound.

Ah yes, that should do it!

I forgot that was there. I've just been using the HTC Mail one. Which has none of those options. Annoying that gmail has no widget for the home screen, but I supposed if I kill the notifications on that, then it'll show the same contents anyway.

HTC Mail

Turn off sync for this under accounts.

gmail has no widget for the home screen

Just use the app shortcut - it will show you if you have messages in the status bar.

I know.. but I like the pretty widget, even if it never works properly *sigh*

widget

I don't use a single widget. They eat up battery, and crash shit all the time.

I don't really give a shit how it looks, it's how it works that's important to me. I only use 2 "screens" anyway.

Yeah I had all six screens occupied by widgets apart from one which had a few apps on it.. have switched to the gmail app now, which seems to be working ok.

Will probabaly have to download something else when I get my work email sorted out so I can have them in the same inbox, as I'm not having that forwarded into my personal account!

As Robin mentions, the Anker 1700Mah batteries are much better and Ive used one in mine for about 4months now. They definitely give you at least another 3 or 4 hrs or play.

Has anyone else had any annoying issues since the latest update in regards of inconsistent mobile network connection? I'm finding that I keep having to switch it on and off at least twice a day for the fucker to work!
Another glitch I've had since the previous update is the friggin auto spell assist boxes overlapping the top of the keyboard letters when used on some websites which is bloody annoying.

I've not had either of those problems. Strange.

The only problem I have with my Sensation, is a problem I've had since day 1... I use the Compact keyboard, and when I try and type "at" it always comes out as "st"

I know what caused this, it was when I first got it and typed "liverpool st" ... it decided that key combination would from then on be for "st". But, oddly it doesn't even have "at" in the list of suggested words, so I have to do "a" *select* "t" *select* every time I want to type "at".

In the custom dictionary "st" isn't listed, so I can't remove it, and I've even tried adding "at" to the list, but it's had no effect.

Me neither but I did have a problem that my phone kept on autoconnecting to open BT Openzone networks when walking down the street - since they just all led to a sign-in page, it meant my internet stopped working every time this happened, as the phone stopped trying to use the mobile network. It would also turn the wireless on and off seemingly randomly.

Eventually, I found out that the My Vodafone app I installed contained a well-hidden option to automatically search for and connect to any BT Openzone hotspot regardless of what else the phone was doing.

Bloody piece of crap Vodafone app. Just mentioning it here in case it might be the same thing. It was very hard to find info on this in Google.

While the geeks are here..........

I've just been given an iPhone 3gs. I now know why people were moaning about it; having to use iTunes, not being able to Bluetooth it to anything other than "audio enhancements" (jokers) and my main issue, "Poor GPS". If I want to use it as a SatNav I have to drive for ten minutes before it locks on. I've read many complaints about this with various apps but no solutions. Any ideas?

(fucking great for a freebie though:-)

It may be the network you're on is shit in that area. It may also be worth trying it with Wifi turned on. I know on Android, the GPS also gets info from Wifi if it's turned on (even if there is nothing you can connect to) so it locks on quicker. Canes the battery even more, mind you.

Get an android

I was impressed with my mate's but he admits he has just as many problems.

I'm with Virgin who don't support iPhones yet so not using it as a phone.

Interesting about having Wifi switched on. I'll give it a go. Location Services rinses the battery anyway so I have a car charger ordered.
