You shouldn't be trying to make huge changes though - just adjust what's there to bring out the best of it.

It is to a certain extent if you where using film could you edit ?!

YES...and you would NEVER EVER print from a negative without some adjustment, be it aperture control, choice of paper, colour enhancement or correction, dodging and burning.

If you want to be taken as a professional photographer, you must begin to edit your photographs.

You need to learn.

Changes/enhancements should really be no more than 10%. It's not about altering your image, it's about making it look it's best.

You can still keep colours natural...but with club photography it's all created light in the club, so it's not like you are working with natural light anyway.

haha i meant like natural as in "original form" not nature.
and trust me i dont try to make big adjustments, just color and white balance and such and i always turn out with odd hues and contrasts. idk.

If it's SX-70 you can make it look like a painting: nyclondon.com

If it's 600 you could scratch it: polaroidmanipulation.pixelfuse.com

(Or you can manipulate it in any of the other many ways on the polaroidmanipulation.pixelfuse.com site)

Or as with any other film-based photo you could scan it in and manipulate it however you want before printing it.

I don't reallly get at what you're getting at?? TBH.

But IMO you have a lessened your chances of ever becoming pro as your photo's will never be good enough without editing.

Also, Editing teaches you to look at your images in more detail... as well as enhancing them it enables to see what you're doing right as you adjust it.

A poloariod is a negative and print in one, it is not meant for reproduction.

(Although it can be reproduced, this is not the intention of the product. As Iain has pointed out, a great deal of manipluation can be done with the polaroid to make it more interesting. And at the high end of the market, the intention of the polaroid is to gain an instant idea of the studio setting you have created, before you go ahead with the shoot on medium format film.)

medium format film

Or large format. Polaroid was (is) available as sheet film in 4x5 and 8x10. I believe FujiFilm continues to make instant film in these sizes.

I have an original SX-70.. shame about the demise of the film.

You're not shooting RAW are you? You can make minor adjustments to a JPEG without this happening but if your white balance is way out, you'll get wrong looking photos.

Yeah...that's the one I was using many years ago....my friend had a poloaroid back for his Hasselblad (I think that was the one we would use it on)....funny to think now that was really the only way to get an idea of what your photos would look like!

get a pinhole camera!

Or make one - take the lens off your body and tape kitchen foil with a small hole in the centre over the lens mount (be careful of the contacts) and then shoot away. Be aware though that with a 0.25mm hole that's about 50mm from the sensor your aperture will be along the lines of f/200 so you'll need lots of light or a tripod and a long shutter (and don't expect to see a whole lot through the viewfinder).

If you're using a film camera and you set to Av some of them will correctly meter - but not all will, and you will most likely need to adjust for reciprocity failure.

A photographer who does not edit his photos is like a chef who cooks without any seasoning because he wants to keep the ingredients natural...
