Paid work?
I'm just wondering whether pro-spotters find paid work through this site? And if so, how does it usually get arranged? Do promoters get in touch with the pro-spotter they'd like to hire? Or do the pro-spotters have to find the work themselves? I'm trying to figure out how this all works......
(oh, and does anyone know why the 'news' section doesn't seem to be updated at all??)

Rob, at one time, there was the opportunity for paid work for pro-spotters, however these days it's fairly difficult to find.

The site does need some updating, and we'll do our best to get that happening.

My recommendation is that "smaller" clubs do hire photographers, but big events can generally get a tog for free.

Just carry on taking photos, and see where your photographic career takes you!

But if that's the case, whats the point of becoming a pro-spotter? Or indeed a spotter at all for DSI? My initial understanding was that this was a resource that promoters use to source photographers, but my understanding now is that it is for the photographer to find events to cover, and even then the best the photographer can hope for is free entry.....
Am I missing something? Or have I missed the golden age of DSI spotters??

Well yes, and no. Depends on what sort of "big events" you're talking about.

This.

Even back in the golden age though, the majority of paid work was organised by either promoters liking a togs work and contacting them, or by togs building relationships with promoters and clubs through free work first.

I personally only got a handful of paid work via DSI management, everything else was either passed onto me by contacts, or I was contacted directly.

It's a bit much to expect a website like this to work as some sort of club tog agency I think.

My initial understanding was that this was a resource that promoters use to source photographers

No, this is a clubbing social networking site, bringing people from all aspects of clubbing, and most importantly, the punters, together. Pro spotting is just a side affect of it once being a good place to show case your nightclub photography.
