I'm used to it now, but I still think the little yellow/dark grey blocks by things looks so cheap and shit. You should change it so it looks more like a piece of Mac software with really ugly adverts for gay black couples.

I agree, but I think using simple framing would be good. I can see the look they're going for, but it still looks a bit cheap. Why keep fragments of the old design in the header colour scheme?

maybe a choice of simple background colours and font colour could be added so people can make their own DSI individual.

give people a basic pallet of primary colours too choose from

I dunno. i think simply fading the 'labels' into the boxes and adding rounded edges could do the job.

Yeah just admit you're going for something created by Apple. It'll be a definite improvement and I don't see why a few flashes of yellow would remind people this is DSI anymore than the logo.
