DSI doesn't do what it should...
DaveB has recently posted this checklist in the DontStayIn website group:

Q:What type of computer are you using (Mac or PC)?
A:Mac -> See the crack with the mac

Q:What operating system? What version operating system?
A:Windows 2000, Windows 98 or Windows 95 -> Try installing FireFox

Q:What browser are you using? What browser version?
A:Using AOL -> AOL is evil - stop using the AOL browser and install Internet Explorer or FireFox
A:Internet Explorer less than version 6 -> Install Internet Explorer 6. If that doesn't work, try FireFox

Q:Are you at work or at home?
A:At work -> Corporate internet departments sometimes cripple browsers so they can't use the chat. If you can install things on your PC, try FireFox

Q:Are you using any personal firewall software like: Norton, ZoneAlarm, BlackIce, eTrust, Fireball, F-Secure, Kaspersky, Kerio, Look'n'Stop, McAfee, Net, NetOpt, Outpost, Panda, PC-cillin, PrivateFirewall, Sygate, Terminet, Tiny or Trustix?
A:Yes -> If so, try totally disabling all the features (not just the firewall part - it's usually a "web-filter" or something that stops the chat / buttons from working).

Using DSI on Firefox is an absolute nightmare for me. I thought it might just be my home computer / ISP but I installed it at work and it still eats loads of live chat messages!

Firefox is fine on PC, but has real problems in chat on a Mac.

I'm going to jump on the band wagon here - but Firefox should be everyone's preferred browser, and until you are using Internet Explorer 7 you should not be using any Microsft product. Until people like Dave realise that standard compliant browsers are going to be the future, we should stop using IE.

It is the devil seriously, it does not adhere to the DOM properly and MOST people view DSI through work. You should seriously start coding DSI through Firefox only and realise that if you do that you are coding to ALL browsers. Firefox will pro-actively tell you when your pages are wrong, IE will just render them. Dont code for the masses - PLEASE.

rant over - sorry Dave.

Firefox IS the way forward!!

Hell yes. How to clear pages of inbox in FF while also reading them?

(1) CTRL-click all topics on a page.

*Click* tab for first post.

(2) Read post. Decide whether to favourite/unwatch/remove from inbox - *click*. CTRL-w. Repeat from (2), if no posts left go to next page of inbox/refresh and goto (1).

30 pages of inbox an hour I reckon...

Doesn't CTRL + W just close the window?

It closes the current tab in FF. So if you have multiple tabs open it gives you the next one. For example, clicking CTRL-w when your tabs look like this:

Leaves them looking like this:

STUPID questions

I agree it can be annoying hearing the same ones over and over. However, they only become 'stupid' questions once you have heard them multiple times and know the answers inside and out. Remember, you weren't born with the answers to these questions pre-programmed into your brain - you must've been told or asked someone once!!

It's like people who say 'Stupid Learner Drivers!!'. Clearly they've forgotten that they were once a learner driver.

Thanks Dave. At least we have somewhere to direct them for the answer now!

Indeed, and the fact that it's very hard to search past posts on here means more repetition.

Maybe the group home page needs sorting out with links to all the useful threads.

good plan...or maybe the group home page could just have an FAQ and answer section with then links to the threads so they can find deeper answers...altho it may be difficult to find threads the abuse group havent deficated on...*sheepish look*

The problem is people are too damn lazy, they would rather post a question in here than take 2 minutes to actually figure out how to do something. Sometimes a bit of endeavour wouldn't go amiss
